I need some support and advice :) Hey Guys!! I am aimlessly browsing the internet when I should be getting started on my honors thesis. I have 2 months to write a 50 page paper in order to graduate with high honors from UCDavis. I've done the research, I've read my book and now I need to WRITE (A LOT!!!) Encouragement and time management strategies would be very helpful! How do I break this enormous project into manageable pieces? I'm a HUGE procrastinator and I truly believe I work better under pressure (which isn't helping me write haha) Thanks guys :) |
Oh I remember writing my Master's Thesis and it was almost 400 pages! I got all the time mgmt info you need :) You've done all the research and reading so that's a great start. Start outlining your paper by topics/themes and then filling it in from there. Oh and get off yorkietalk and WRITE :) Congrats to you~ |

Never wrote a thesis and am not good at time management but just wanted to wish you luck. |
I have never written a thesis either, however I did write the documentation manual for an extensive computer program. My advice is the same I have given anyone who has a large project. Make an outline of the project. As you start to add details your thesis will start to fall into place in an orderly manner. Take Kim(Simonandhallie)'s advice on time management - she is a supersmart lady who is very organized. Good luck! I hope this thesis makes the best seller list :) |
Outline! LOL It will help tremendously. Good luck!!!!!!!! |
thanks everyone :) I have a rough outline. I think you are all correct in saying that the outline is the best place to start. Since making this initial post I've actually begun to rework my thesis YEAH PROGRESS!!!! |
Omg wow that's a lot! The biggest paper i ever wrote was about 16 pgs in HS! I wish you the best of luck, you can do it! |
Lots of good luck in obtaining your degree. You are correct in making an outline before you write. Next step is to organize all of your references and footnotes. The passages you quote will need to be reference by number, so putting these in order will help you write. In fact, sometimes in reading over your notes and references you will find the correct order needed for your outline. After you write one chapter, go back and review what you have written before you go on. Take one step at a time and you will get there. Devote a certain amount of time each day or evening to do this project, as if this were a job. Hope this helps you. In writing this out, you have helped me too! |
OMG you are still here? Do I need to suspend you so you get started writing? ;) |
