Acne scars Anyone know what's good with acne scars? I have very little ones that i want gone |
I've heard of something called Mederma (?) that is supposed to help. Also, you might visit the Lancome counter, I think they have something too. |
Chemical peels usually do the trick. Make sure your esthetician is working under a Dr.'s licence because you probably want a medium depth peel. |
have you tried scarzone? it's worked real well for my hubby.. he used to have real bad acne as a teen, and had scars, but now you'd never guess he had any acne he was using it as a daily regimen with his other acne meds but it worked real well! |
I second chemical peels, they work wonders but like Nikki stated be sure they are a licensed professional. Good Luck! |
Im interested, too. How can you find a good place to go for chemical peels in your area? WHat is the price range for a chemical peel? |
I had SERIOUS acne as a teen. I went on Accutane and it cleared up my pimples but I was left with horrible scars (from all the scratching and popping). I had a series of chemical peels and my face is soooo incredibly smooth now because of them. They really do make the scars go away. Trust me, I've tried every cream and medicine that there is and the only thing that ever worked for me is chemical peels. I still have chemical peels twice a year just to keep my skin surface smooth and silky. I love them. Just make sure you go to someone who is licensed. My dermatologist does them for me. If you saw me today, you would never even know that I had acne. My skin is so smooth and scar free. |

I went on accutane too and was left with scars also. It cleared my face tho. I'm gonna try chemical peels, what do they do usually? Does it hurt? |
Microderm Abrasion is fabulous to get rid of scarring. Even age spots. Chemical peels also work well. I do microderm abrasion on my face once a week and the results are absolutely amazing. |

Chemical peels don't hurt at all. Totally painless. Basically what happens is first you wash your face (to remove any make-up and dirt). Then they have you lay back flat in a chair. They move your hair out of the way too (don't want to get that stuff in your hair lol). It takes like 5 minutes to do, it's so quick. Using a cotton ball, they gently apply the liquid to your skin and rub it in. After your entire face is wet (they even do my chin and neck area, just to keep the entire area consistently smooth), they let it sit there for a few minutes ... they time it exactly. Then they use more cotton balls and wash it off your face. That's it!! It's so quick and simple!! But remember, 1 chemical peel probably won't do it. They usually recommend you have 1 chemical peel every week or every 2 weeks and they will tell you how many you needed. Some people only need 4 chemical peels, others may need 10. It all depends on how severe your scars are and how DEEP they are. That's so important. If your scars run very deep (like 5 layers into your skin), then you will need more chemical peels. Chemical peels also are really effective when they are combined with exfoliation (you can do that at home on a weekly basis) and even microdermabrasion. All that helps remove dead skin cells and the scars along with it. Basically you want to get to the skin UNDER all the scars which is fresh and scar-free. Now, don't confuse chemical peels with fruit acid peels. They are too seperate things. I have found chemical peels to be MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE than fruit acid peels. I've had both, so I'm speaking form experience. Don't waste your money on fruit acid peels. They aren't strong enough to really get rid of acne scars. PS - Sorry for the long novel lolol But as I'm sure you can tell, I've been doing this for a while hehehehe :D I did a ton of research and thank goodness these scars are finally gone. I absolutely hated them. |

I'm an esthetician but I didn't work under a Dr. so the peels I did weren't as deep as you can get (the ones you would want for scarring). I personally like peels way better than microderm. Both exfoliate but peels can have other effects too, depending on the type of peel and what you need. They can have lightening ingredients for sun damage, ingredients to treat acne, antioxidants, there are so many options. Microderm only exfoliates and truthfully, I used to hate performing it. The suction is really hard on more mature skin that is already prone to broken capillaries IMO. As far as peels and what to expect, the light peels I performed caused the appearance of slightly flaky skin for a few days and that was it. I know someone who had really bad scarring who had a pretty deep peel from a dermatologist. She told me her face was like raw hamburger for about a week but when the new skin came in it was perfect- like a child's. So depending on what you need it can really vary. |

They sound so awesome! I don't have any scarring but I'd like to have one one day to deal with my sun damage- not yet though, I'm not done damaging yet.:p |
