On solid floors you push a button and the brushes quit turning. Had an Oreck until one year ago and my dh gave a Dyson Animal as a Christmas gift. I was absolutely mortified when I saw all the dirt coming out of my carpet. Now I feel like my carpets are clean. (side note: dh hates buying such items as vacuum cleaners, expensive cookware, or anything for the house as a gift. He says they are boring. I MOST certainly don't think so.) |
We have all tile floors in our house as we live in FL. Lots of sand. It works great. So much better than sweeping the floor. |
Funny--just found this thread. Even funnier---just posted about this exact thing on the NB.Forum. I have had the Dyson animal for a couple years. I love the thing. When I first got it my rugs actually turned a diff color. The first couple weeks, I vacced every day and there was no end in site to the crap it was pulling up. At the time, I had two dogs, lab ( only GS's shed more than a lab lol)and a chow mix, 3 cats--one is a persian/hymmy cross, and my DS and the tribe he always had with him. I do take apart the canister and wash it throughly about every 6-8 weeks and bought an additional filter--the one at the top of the canister-- so I can wash one and let it throughly dry without having to wait to vac again. It makes a big dif if you are cleaning up after pets---eventually their dander starts to build up in there. Honestly, I was going through a vac a year before this one--- and it's the only one that keeps my DS's environmental allergies at bay. |

Oh gosh yes! Hit your coach (HA--couch--no more outlet shopping for me!)pillows, etc with it once a month too! I honestly think the cat fur is what killed all my other vacs----I love cats---I hate how they shed so! |
My mom loves hers |

I have started to vacuum my hard floors too since I got my Dyson. I have to agree that appliances are not good gifts unless it is someone setting up a household. To me it gives the impression that the recipient is to do all of the work. I think expensive items such as a Dyson should be a joint decision, bought for the home not a certain person. Heck I would like something for me or the dogs for my gifts! nice set of steps, Grooming boxes, new bows (I know not that expensive), clippers, brushes, etc. My world revolves around my dogs, not my house! |

Love my Hoover vacuum!!! I looked at the Dyson's, but just cannot seem to bring myself to spend $200 or more for vacuum. |
Finally! Got One!!! I found one at "BuyEssex" here in Nashville.m it is a store that gets buy outs, and returned items........and I got so lucky.....I got the canister type, which I absolutely love, love, love.....we have all hardwood floors and it is so much easier to use on the dust bunnies..... And I got it for a song, too.....the only thing.....after I swept my wool rug, I realized what a SLOB I have been.....ewwwwwwww yuck! I highly recommend the cannister type that I got!!! |
Well worth the money!!!! Was so surprised the first time we used it, To see all the yuck my old vaccum was not getting. |
