Need help with Routers and Speed issues!!!!! Router is taking my speed away??? We got PS3 for xmas and have been trying to play COD4 online. Problem is are internet speed. So I upgraded to the platinum plan. We have Satellite Internet thru Dish Network. I also have a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router hooked up to use wirelessly. Well my speed even after the upgrade was way low. They had me unhook the router and hook my desktop up right to the interent and there was my speed!!! This router is whats taking my speed away real bad!!! If I got a different router would it make a difference? The tech told me she uses a Netgear and doesn't lose her speed at all and she has the satelite serive too. Can anyone help! We are not able to play Call of Duty 3 online now. |
My hubby is a nerd an also has a PS3 thingy. He says that the COD is slow because many people are trying to get on it due to the christmas joys of giving. Also, he wants to know if your internet is working ( he is working out right now, so he will be available in about 20 minutes) |

Without the router hooked up my internet is to the speed it suposed to be but we need it wireless for the PS3 so I'm wondering if I tried another router and which one? |
Ok, He says: It shouldn't be the router, the router is a good brand and doubt it is that. Make sure is it set to G not B. Also, is anyone else doing anything else on-line at the same time, cause that would slow it down? It could just be too far from the PS3, microwaves and some wireless phones may interfere with it |
I was about to say...Belkin is one of the top routers out there! :thumbs_up And our tech person also told us about cordless phones, etc interferring sometimes. We got the "N" router - for WiFi outside the house.... I hope you can figure it out! :xfingers:  |
Netgear is definitely better. We had some degraded service and switched and we are good to go. We are running three pcs off of it and also two xbox 360's simultaneously and no problems. I will only see a lower speed if I am persay sending big files while they are playing. We got the Netgear becuase a friend of ours and fellow gamer with hubby is an IT guy and he put us on to it. If you want I can send you the model we have. We got it at www.newegg.com for cheaper than the other spots. |

The tec had me do a test with the router connected and then disconnected. Wtih it connected my speed was half the speed. With the router NOT connected - the speed was the speed I'm paying for. How do I make sure its set to G and not B ??? |

I already solved the problem for you..........come to NJ and get out of the boonies and get DSL :D |
LINKSYS is a great and out here vs Netgear its rated better....don't know how true it is but what I DO know is that LINSYS is "user friendly" unlike Netgear which you have to have some computer knowledge to get it up and running. |

Do you know what channel your router is on? Very often, your neighbor's router may be on the same channel as yours. This will cause a great reduction in data speed to your setup. For example, I am on a Mac. Using a utility called "iStumbler", I can see what channels surrounding networks are on. My closest neighbor is on Channel 6, so I set mine to Channel 3. This caused a significant boost in speed. I checked on the website of your Belkin router. Their user manual is here: http://www.belkin.com/support/produc...&pid=F5D9230-4 If you download it, check on page 47. It will show you how to access all internal settings, such as changing from "b" to "g" mode, changing channels, etc. The channel you select should be at least 3 digits away from the closest one (eg. your neighbor's). I assume your computer is a PC running Windows XP or Vista. The same settings will apply. The only thing is that you will need a "wireless discovery tool" that allows you to see surrounding networks, so that you can choose a channel that hopefully no-one/fewer users are using. I am going out for a while, but will check in here later if you need help. Feel free to PM me if you want. Lauren:D |
Breny, Hon sorry I didn't look back at the post online. I will check the model and pm you about it when I get home. This one totally rocks. Hubby is a big online gamer. He plays Call of Duty 4, Madden, NHL etc all the time. Big crackhead gamer. Ours is in the diningroom, xbox 360's in each of the kids room and livingroom and at his statiion in the diningroom, also runing a pc there, in the girls room and my laptop in our bedroom.. no problems at all.
