Has anyone seen the HGTV Key West Dream House?? It's so amazing!! I would LOVE to have a house like it. I love all the bright colors and nautical home goods. The location looked beautiful on TV but I'm not sure if I'd want to LIVE in the Florida Keys (having visited the Florida Keys I thought they were OK- but I was kind of unimpressed, especially with the lack of things to do). Maybe if the house was free, I'd reconsider. :p |
No, did they already show it? I heard them talking about it. |
No, I didn't see it but I am a HGTV nut!!! I Tivo so many of their shows. The only other forum that I visit is the HGTV forum's. I will have to watch for the Key West house. (I am like you...I don't think I would like to live in Key West. I guess I always imagined Key West to be this beautiful tropical place but when I visited there....I thought it was really a dirty & nasty not at all what I expected). |
Was that the one with the bright lime green bedroom? If it is I thought it was so cute, and such a great home to live in if I was in the keys. You're right though... there is NOTHING to do there! My best friend's parents lived there and we went to visit for a week and were so bored. We went riding bikes on this tiny island that doesn't have any electricity! They power everything by generators. lol. And downtown is nice for the first few days of the trip, but after that all the little bars and shops get boring. lol. But it is a cute place for a weekend vacation ;) |

We went for two days and were so bored after the first few hours. :p We went to Miami for most of the week and then to Key West for the last two days. We did go to the butterfly conservatory which was REALLY neat but other than that there was nothing to do! I also really enjoyed all the art galleries and little boutique-type stores. I'd definitely go back but only for a couple of days as we did over the summer. |

Key West is fun for about one day at a time IMO. I think that a lot of the people who live in Key West have a blase attitude - kind of that "sitting on my porch swing, drinking my marguerita with no cares in the world" thing. A lot of it is just shabby chic or something, like they don't want to spend too much time fixing things up and it's so cool being slightly run down and who wants to waste time painting and mending stuff. I haven't seen the HGTV house yet, but I'd just imagine it in some other Florida location. Does it have a pool? A lot of the pools in Key West have to be hand dug because the houses are so close together and it's impossible to get machinery in the back where the pool goes! |

That's why they started giving away the car and cash, so you can actually get something for having your name drawn. I'm sure there are many people who couldn't even get that loan. |
I love HGTV, my TV is always on that station...my family gets so mad at me for making them watch it. The Florida Keys house this year is beautiful, and I loved the house last year that was in North Carolina too..... |
I've seen it, u think it's gorgeous! but i agree Florida Keys is boring. I thought the house was free:confused: Is it taxes you have to pay if you win it? |
You have to pay yearly property taxes and such. For our measley lil 3 bedroom (worth about 100,000) on an acre in a semi-rural area, property taxes run about $1000 a yr. I can't imagine what it would be forr a house that nice in Key west. I always love the HGTV dream houses. I think if I won I would vaction in it for a wk or two, then sell it. ANd buy a resonably priced house in SC. |
