Switching cell providers, help What is the best way to go about this? Should I activate the new phones first, before I cut off the old ones? I am taking my numbers with me, if that matters. I received with my last statement (Sprint) that they were changing some of the services and terms of my contract. I was thinking that I could use that to get out of paying the early termination fees on three phones. Yes, no?!? I'm so lost! |
Activate your new phones first.. I think they can take the numbers when your old plan is still activated. Then just cancel your sprint. This is what I did when I changed plans. |
Cool, thanks:D! |
My experience is that the cell phone providers will NOT negotiate on the contract issue. I canceled with AT & T because of crappy service and faulty equipment and they still had the audacity to charge me an early termination fee of about $250. Read the fine print. I definitely would get the new service up and running before canceling the old. Depending on the time left on your contract, you may be money ahead to keep paying on the old until the contract ends, while using the new, or just wait until the old contract expires. Good luck! |
Don't cancel first, otherwise you can't keep your numbers. You have to go to another company and keep your number, and it automatically cancels your old account when you switch your number to another company. |

ditto on the new company will take care of everything (minus the cancellation fees).. i heard some companies do this though.. not sure which ones.. but thats what i heard.. this is what DH and i are doing today actually.. lol |
I just recently switched from Cellular One to Alltel. All I had to do was go to Alltel and set up the account. They switched my number for me and canceled the cellular one. I didn't have to do a thing! |

Cingular waived our early term. fees because we weren't in their coverage area when they switched to AT&T. So we switched to Cellular One. Now, they too have joined AT&T. grrrrrrr |
