HELP Me find my DAD a new PC !! please ???
 
My dad wants ME to choose a home computer for him - he likes HP but doesn't need it for much cept email and checking ONE website - so I'm thinking he should be able to get one for UNDER $300

Anyone know where I can do this online or a store we can get one from ?

I'm leary of doing it online due to identity theft and he's 80 years old - I don't want to be running store to store with him...I called a few places yesterday and didn't hear anything that sounded like a great deal - and with it being after Christmas I would think someone is offering a good sale for Desktop PC's

I'm looking for a great DEAL and would love any suggestions !! Thank you !!!

What a great daughter you are V. My mom is 84 and wanted one like mine (Dell), but it is way to much for her and her lack of PC experience. She would have been much happier getting one from Wal Mart. They have some pretty good deals on them. Maybe try there?

Really - Walmart ? Never even thought to look there - I don't know if my dad is a Walmart kind of guy but I'm off to their website to look right now - and you're right - at this age FAST & EASY is key ...:thumbup:

my dad is hilarious - he had all this stuff picked out and I was like "AND WHO IS GOING TO RUN IT FOR YOU WHEN I'm NOT here ? Hmmmmmmmm ??????":D :D :D

Anyone heard of Everex or Acer Computers ? They're low priced but I know nothing about them

Hey V, Just wanted to say good luck in your search! I've had an Acer (a long time ago!) but never heard bad things about them! Never heard of Everex. Also, I know that eMachines are good, less expensive computers for the same thing as a $500 more HP or Dell or whatever. You're paying for the name with those computers. My mom has an eMachine and she loves it! She uses the Internet pretty frequently but that's about it on her computer, but it's working well and she's had it for 1 1/2 years...so I would tell ya to check out them! GOOD LUCK :thumbup:

Hey V - I have an emachine from Walmart and it works just fine for the little that I do on it at home. I had initially bought it for my BF's son when he came to live with us but when they moved out it stayed:D

LOL - he went for it ! I may be meeting him later today and we're going to pick one up or do this next saturday - I have him checking his ads in the Sunday paper ....he had his heart set on a 'name' brand and I'm trying to explain for what he does he just needs good but low cost.

Thanks for the help - I really appreciate it - I'd never have thought of Walmart for a computer

I don't know if your dad would be against a "hand me down" computer, but I have a pretty decent Dell system that I purchased two years ago (and at that time, it had all of the "best of the best" components in it) - that I no longer use.... between mine and the kids' I think there's 4 computers 'round here... and NO house needs that many computers!
I'd be happy to send it to you for your dad, if you think it would be alright for him.... might take me a few days to get organized and get it out to you, but I'd be happy to do it. (no charge of course). I understand if he'd rather have a new one, but thought I'd offer.
Let me know what you think.

Aren't you SWEET !!! Thank you !!! - We ordered him one today but the offer you just made is so nice - I'll have to tell him about you :D He really wanted a brand name and went with a DELL too :) (free shipping got him) but actually he got a nice one for a decent price.
