Has anyone heard of this? My son is 11 year old and has been dx with ADHD and a mild form of autism. He has been on a medication called Focalin. I would like to switch to a natural and healthier method of treating his issues. I stumbled across this website and was wondering if anyone else has ever heard of it. http://www.feingold.org/pg-overview.html |
I have heard of it, but never seen the website. I think it would definitely be worth a try! |
I hadn't heard of it, but I looked at the history of it etc. - and I am a firm believer in the diet correlation seen in many who are diagnosed with autism or in the spectrum. Have you checked out Jenny McCarthy's info.? I only mention this bc she is really into the latest diet research for autism (her son is autistic) and it did miracles for her son. I wonder if she also followed Feingold...? |
I had all my kids on the Feingold diet for many years. Not all of them are ADD, but it was just easier and healthier for all. It really helped. I think a lot of the problems we have are due to all the chemicals in and on our foods and in our environments. If I were you I would definitely research it and give it a try. It does require a lot of time cooking and making things from scratch if you can't find the natural stuff in the stores, but it is well worth it. The great thing about the Feingold association is you can get their book with lists of all the safe foods. That really helped! |
I work in a counseling center for children and this is one of the meds that is prescribed for the kids with ADD and ADHD I have heard good results from it. I know it takes a while to get into their system before you see any results. |
I don't have a problem with the Focalin, other than its a medicine and I would like to try a more natural alternative. I would love for it to be where he doesn't have to take a pill every day. |

I didn't know there was a name for this but I've been doing this for years now. I felt like crap all the time and got migraines and cutting out all the preservatives and all that stuff was the only thing that helped. You'd be amazed what you can't buy at the regular grocery store. Even basic cereal and bread and hot dog buns have corn syrup and preservatives in them. I shop at Trader Joe's a lot and make a lot more from scratch than I used to. Things like Mac N Cheese don't have to come from a box. |
The only problem I am going to have is my MIL. I just can't seem to make her understand that coke, chips, hot dogs, candy, etc are bad for my kids and I do NOT want them to have those things. My biggest thing is salt. I absolutely do NOT want salt (table salt especially) added to my children's food. I don't eat salt and I don't want them to get into the habit of eating it. There is plenty of sodium in the foods already and no reason to add to it. She CONSTANTLY pours salt on my 4 yr old's food. The older two are old enough to know not to do it. Even with me sitting there and Olivia will ask for salt and with me telling her NO she will get the salt shaker and do it. She either doesn't listen or doesn't care what I have to say regarding MY child. So I'm just worried about that. |
