Digital Cameras? I'm buying a new camera soon and I want a professional one. I don't really know what would be considered a professional camera, but I want one that takes professional pictures. If that makes any sense. Lol. When I look at pictures, I can tell the difference in a regular and professional camera shot. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good camera? TIA:D :D |
I think that with digital cameras it's more what magapixel it is. The higher the megapixie, the better the picture quality you get. al I know is that is what my husband is checking out with the camera's that we have been looking at. He wants 8 or higher and he found a 12 megapixel one that I think we will end up with by his birthday in March. |
It really depends on your price range. I think the best "professional" camera for a reasonable price is the Canon Digital Rebel XT or XTi. I have the XT (8 megapixels) and love it! I'm getting the XTi (10 mp) soon. The great thing about these are that you can buy extra lenses for different purposes and they are both fully automatic or you can use full manual settings, so you can learn as you go and shoot in whatever mode you are most comfortable with. Good luck with your search! |

I have the Canon Digital Rebel XTi and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Did I mention that I love it? |
Sounds like you want an SLR camera. The SLR are professional grade cameras and you can change the lens in them. I just bought one myself as an early Christmas present to me. I got the Nokia D40. I chose to get mine at Ritz Camera instead of at a Electronics store because Ritz offers free classes on how to use it correctly. I haven't gone yet and I need to! Many people like the Canon version too. Be prepared to spend some $$$ - The cameras are priced with a basic lens (if that) and you will definitely need to get memory cards, lens filter to protect the camea lens, bag, warranty. My camera started out at $600 or so and I walked out the store at just shy of $1,000. I looked between the Canon & Nokia for a good 6 months or more. Went to "Camera Stores" and handled both cameras multiple times to see which one I felt more comfortable with. The best way to decide is to actually use one so go to the stores that don't have the camera all mounted down, you have to be able to hold it and use it to get the right feel... Good luck! It's definitely worth it (if you are ready to invest in one!) |

My MIL just got one on sale for $800, but didn't get an attachment lens. I liked it, but didn't really like that you had to look thru the eye piece, instead of looking thru the screen too. If that makes sense. And it was pretty heavy too - that surprised me. I am not use to doing the focusing by hand, where you have to turn the lens....that was a little hard to get used to. BUT she really loves it......and she said it was recently on sale at Sam's Club for $600. |

I think the few drawbacks, the size and such, are worth it when you consider how much better the quality is than point and shoot cameras. Hope that helps! :) |
4 Attachment(s) Thanks for that! I do like it...and when I looked to get a replacement camera, I looked at several places...course DH thought $1200 for a camera was a lot (I wanted to get the camera and the lens, etc). Anyway, at last resort I went to Wal-Mart just to see what they had and I needed a new camera right away. Anyway, the guy there showed me a Fuji (?) camera that is basically the same as the Canon, just about the same options, etc. That was about $300. He showed me a binder full of pictures...side by side shots that he had taken using both the Canon and the Fuji....you couldn't tell a difference...in fact, he had to turn over the pictures so I could tell which were which....he had them marked. So, anyway, I ended up getting that one to make DH happy...and I tell you what...I love it! My MIL says that those are some of the best pictures coming from that camera too. So, that may be a cheaper option for someone looking for a good camera...just I guess and off brand?? He said too, the picture quality has a lot to do with the person behind the camera! Here are a few different shots that I have taken..... I can't believe that spider!!! OMG is that a teranchula? I would have never been around long enough to take that pic. I run screaming when I see a bug. I have even considered getting hypnotized for it!!!! |

No, it wasn't that big....it was the size of a quarter...but the camera takes excellent pictures.....can you believe a spider that size (which I think a spider the size of a quarter is pretty big myself ), turned out so close and clear on a camera!!!! :thumbs_up I mean, you can see it's joints and little hairs.....YUCK!!! |
2 Attachment(s) I have a Canon XTi dSLR. The detail is incredible in hi-res. I used to like dragon flies. Now I know they're really ugly. This one is having dinner. |
My hubby shoots professionally with a canon 20D. Great camera, while MP help...they are not the only thing. You need to look at other aspects of the camera. Also, the stock lense will work for a while, but if you want to get into photography as a hobby or prof. then you want to invest in lenses. A simple point and shoot camera will not give you what you are wanting, and on that token, a nice DSLR will also not give you what you want if you don't learn to use it, and learn a little about photography. Here is a link of some of my hubby's shots : http://fotologue.jp/fochkopf/#/1006831/1006840 and a good new site for phtography: http://www.newschoolofphotography.com/ Hope that helps you some. The hubby is on here, but rarely posts. His screen name is Kevin (original I know) but feel free to send him a PM. He LOVES to talk about photography and cameras and anything to do with it! |
