well we have decided To look for a family in our town that is in need of a few things. We have a real nice floor model TV in the bedroom that we never use. and we also have like 4 computer chairs in the garage and a few other large items.and some baby learning toys that are like new that the grandbabys growed out of, and me and hubby got to talking and decided to ask around our town for someone inneed of these things and give it to them free. we was going to sale the items, because we are short of money, but then thought if we could do this for someone that needs them, that would be better. so tmorrow I have a few friends thats gonna ask around. Does anyone know a better way to find a Family in need. I dont want to give it to someone who just wants the extra items, but someone who really needs them and that it would really make their day. |
you can ask around local churches. they can usually help you find families in need. |

When we have items like that, especially childrens toys & bedding, I call our local Women & Children shelter and "John" comes over and picks it up. My husband also is the custodian for a mission center and sometimes there are people who volunteer at the mission who don't have much themselves, they try and "pay back". If they have special needs we let people know around the holidays. You could also check with the local school system to see if there are any people who are having an especially rough winter. Maybe a nursing home might need a tv. Blessings to you for wanting to help like that. It doesn't take much to really make a difference. |
We had went to the communtiy action place in our next town because they give children Christmas , for the ones who wont have any and I asked the lady there and she said they are done with it, but still have people in need that are getting turned away.and I said well we have a lot of used but like new baby and children stuff we would like to give to someone, but they said they was not allowed to give out their information. |
there is a site called angel help , i think every state in the US has one... you can either post what you have to give, or you can read the posts and see if anyone is needing what you have. it is a great way of sharing with people who are less fortunate.. heres the link just look up the state you live in.hope that helps http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AngelHelpSites/ |

When we owned a bar, one of the things we did every year was to find 4 or 5 families and provide their xmas for them. Patrons of our bar (it was also a restaurant and hotel) would bring in toys that we would fix up and clean, clothing and anything that would make a good gift. Mostly it was toys. We also took monetary donations for bigger items. Then I would call local churches, domestic relations and CASA to get the names of any families that they felt would have no xmas without our help. They would contact the families first to see if they would like our help and have the the families contact us. (You have to be careful of some people just looking for a free handout). We would get a list of what the kids wanted and anything special that we couldn't come up with we would go to the stores and see if they would donate the gift. If we still couldn't find it, we used the money to buy it. They my dh and I would go to the grocery store and buy everything needed for a nice, but not extravagant, xmas dinner. Usually a small ham, taters, veggies, rolls and dessert. Then the best part. We had a race car and our driver was a ham with a genuine Santa belly, so he would dress up as Santa and we would deliver the toys to the families. Somebody went along to tape the kids. It was one of the most rewarding feelings I have ever felt. Maybe if you contact some of those places, you can get some ideas. Ours were very protective and wouldn't give out the names, but they did get in touch with the people, abd you can go from there. I commend you for what you are doing. With all the financial problems so many people are experiencing this year, you are putting others needs ahead of you own families. What you are doing will be give some families a xmas they will always remember. God Bless. |
Check with the counseling dept. of your local school district. They usually have a very good idea about families in their district in need of help. That's a wonderful thing for you to do. :) |
