My Mom deserves the best...but what could that be? Well, it's Christmas time again, and as always I am at a loss at what to give my mother. She has everything she needs and many things she doesn't need....so what do you give a 93 year old "super" Mom? She is fairly active for her age when we get her out of the house. Her main health problem is not being able to walk very far without getting short of breath. As she puts it..."As long as I'm sitting, I feel fine". But she does get out (with the help of family members), to birthday celebrations, family dinners, and our family bunko group once a month. But otherwise, she spends most of her time sitting at home. As I mentioned she really doesn't need anything in the line of clothing (hard to buy for/please anyway), or household items, so I am once again stumped! Anybody creative minds out there to help me out.....or someone with a similar gift giving situation? We don't/can't spend a whole lot, though she deserves the best! I would love to hear some suggestions...Thanks:) |
What about a nice spa day...nails, hair, pedicure...the works. I know you said she is 93, but my mom is 84 and still enjoys a nice massage. |
what about buying a lovely photo album and filling it with pictures of her family/friends, places she's lived/visited, from the earlier years up until now? and maybe little captions with each picture or something? If i think of anything else i'll post!;) |
Here is what I'm "going to do" for my mom. She's 79 and I just hope she sticks around long enough for me to actually do it!! I want to take a jar and fill it is with slips of paper with our simple memories jotted on them..... Here are examples of mine..... "Remember when we went to the Lost Forties for a picnic and forgot the bread? We ate our bologna on potato chips!" "Remember when you used to fill up the sink with water and let us play with our animal erasers in the "big pool"?" (does anyone remember animal erasers?) "Remember when we were sick and you gave us the glass bell called the "sick bell" to ring if we needed anything?" "Remember when you used to rub Vicks on our chests when we had a cold?" "Remember when the doc thought we were allergic to chocolate and you used to cut off the outside of a 3 Muskateers for us? Only to find out later that the nougat contained chocoate anyway?" "Remember when we didn't want to go somewhere with our friends but didn't want to tell them, so we'd ask you to say we were grounded?" "Remember when those people on vacation lost their dog at the rest area in our town and you spent the next 6 weeks tracking that dog to return it to them?" "Remember when you brought Morris the cat home from the VFW parking lot because he jumped in the car with you and woke us up?" |
How about a nice family picture? |
For my Coby that is so sweet it brought tears to my eyes |
I think these Video Picture Frames are GREAT!! http://www.radioshack.com/family/ind...p=2032055&cid= Download on it your favorite photos of you and her through the years, she will enjoy the memories that replay over and over when she looks or glances at the frame! |

My girlfriend also did this for her mom. She picked out a calendar fitting for her mom and then filled it with dates that they would do things like go to lunch or visit together. I thought that was a good one as well. |
What about a photo book? I like the ones from Shutterfly. |

One year, I did a big scrapbook (nothing fancy, but nice) for my parents...who are VERY hard to shop for......I started out with a family picture of when we were young. Then, I did pictures of the parents young, some of their milestones, etc. then, progressed into our family, my sister and I, families, trips, etc. I try to add pages to it every now and then.....which I currently need to do. They cried! |
I remember when one of my grandmothers was about 96 or so (she passed at 98), we did a big box of food staples for her as well as a box of craft/hobby things that she enjoyed doing. She still lived alone in her 100 year old 3 story house...so we also included "coupons" of sorts, for jobs that needed to be done around the house. Like, if it was time for the pest control people to come out....it was paid for with that "coupon", etc. |
Give her free maid service for a few months. Or, give her a gift card from her favorite restaurant. If it were my mother, she would LOVE to see the chip n dales. :lol tears (she's passed now) She was a wild one!! |

This is a wonderful idea! Along with the photos idea! If I am ever having a hard time finding something for my mom I just go to a christian book store, then I can't decide what to buy because I find so many great things! Good luck! |
