Has anyone else seen this? My DH and I just watched it last night and it was so hard for me to watch (there was animal abuse and graphic photos shown in some parts). It opened my eyes a lot though to the real issues going on within the animal rights movement that are often hidden by the media -- some good things, some bad.

I just was wondering if I was the only one who saw it -- I couldn't find it anywhere so I had to Netflix it.

Here is the trailer/myspace for the movie but it is probably graphic in some parts so it may not be work safe or if you don't like seeing those things, you may not want to watch it.

I haven't ever heard of it...I haven't been keeping myself up to date on the animal rights issues that I care so much about. What is it about?

It mostly talked about the different organizations Peta, ALF, Shac, and other smaller rescue groups. It was showing how two of the leaders of SHAC were actually on the top 10 terrorist list for the US.

It went into showing all the sides of the situation -- different organizations beliefs, the sometimes forceful tactics that some animal rights groups use to get their message across, ect.

It also includes celebrity interviews and shows their viewpoints as well.

It really opened my eyes to a lot of things and I liked that it showed all sides evenly. It didn't have a "side".

I had never heard of ALF or the SHAC movement before...they seem pretty outrageous to me:thumbdown I'm all about animal rights and loving animals, but I think this group is pretty rediculous. I just watched a couple of the clips on the myspace page.

It definitely shows all sides of the issue. I never heard about Shac or Alf either before the movie. I felt really confused during the movie because I realized I couldn't take a definitive side and that all the groups had something positive and negative about them. The groups also changed throughout time so in the beginning they did do more positive things and then it spiraled it seemed like.

In the movie it also was showing the difference between animal rights and animal welfare which I never even thought how different they are.

It was so much to think about. I'm still not even sure how I feel about all that I saw.

So watched the little clips- so I think it makes a little more sense.

Was this on TV? What a random, odd title for a movie.

ETA: Who is the old man with the cane?

It's actually the title of a PETA pamphlet "your mommy kills animals" that they were distributing to children w/graphic pictures of skinned animals :thumbdown

Not sure why they used it for the movie...

It's not on tv, it was in theaters and is now on dvd, but I had a hard time finding it anywhere so I had to order it from netflix.

I didn't see the old man w/a cane in the trailer or was he in a different clip?

It was in a different clip. There were people outside of his apartment (I'm guessing?) and then he came out and hit one with his cane and he got arrested.

Oh ok, I remember now. The one group -- Shac I believe was doing a "home demonstration" -- which is basically a protest at a person's home who runs a big company or something like that, that tests on animals.

The older gentleman came out of the building (not sure who he was) and smacked one of the protesters w/his cane so he was arrested.

Oh, OK. They are intense! :eek: I don't think I could watch the whole movie!

After doing some google I found that the two men from SHAC that are being interviewed in the clips are in jail (along with a few others).

Peta's head quarters is located here. There are many many things that make our local news, but not nationally. What people assume is their premise sounds like a good thing, but not necessarily everything if you do some research in their objectives. To tell the truth I don't believe PETA even approves of owning any animal.

My understanding is that PETA believes that there should be a law requiring ALL pets to be neutered. In a very short time there would be no domesticated dogs or cats which is how they think it should be.:eek: It's such a shame when groups that are founded on a good idea get so extreme that nobody can relate to them. I get a lot of great information as a vegetarian from PETA sites and my daughter has used them for reference on companies who test on animals but I would never want to be affiliated with them because IMO they have totally lost their minds.:rolleyes:

I haven't heard of that movie so I'm going to go watch the clip.
