How do u keep a duvet looking neat? I'm so darn frustrated with my duvet. I paid a small fortune for a Calvin Klein duvet a few years back and have never been able to get it to look right. Bc of it's price, I am determined to make it work! It's a king, but the duvet always seems much bigger than the down comforter - so there are all these spots where there is duvet, but no comforter filling it. I use duvet clips in the corners, but it STILL doesn't seem to stay in place inside the duvet. The duvet always seems to look kind of "twisted" bc the comforter inside is forever positioned a bit differently than the duvet - hence, it "pulls" at the duvet. It always just looks SLOPPY! Does anyone else have this goofy problem? How do you get a duvet to look/lay nicely? |
Ugh I have the SAME problem...and those duvet clips did not work for me at all!! The only thing I found was to use safety pins on the underside....Ive been doing that for a month now and havent had a problem yet...Maybe that will work for you too? |
I have always wondered about this very thing, and have never bought a duvet cover because of it...:rolleyes: |
I've made duvets before, and I used the following technique. It worked so well that I have added it to the duvets I've bought! Sew a piece of ribbon about 6-8" long to each corner of your comforter. (Your sewing does not need to be good or pretty, no one will ever see it!) Sew the same length of ribbon on the middle of each side, except for the bottom (You'll have 7 total.) Turn your duvet cover inside out, and sew ribbons in the same spots to the inside of the cover. Then, take the top corners of the comforter, line them up with the ribbons on the inside-out cover, and tie in tight bows or knots. Repeat with the other ribbons-they should align. Turn the cover right side out over the comforter, and smooth out the corners, then fasten the buttons/closure on the bottom, and put in your bed. The comforter won't move around inside of the cover any more! When you need to wash the cover, just untie! Tip: Use a ribbon the same color as the duvet, or use white, so you can't see it through the cover, and so it won't rub color off in the wash. |
If you are using a duvet to cover a down comforter I would suggest buying a size larger comforter than your duvet. I had the same problem with my sheets, most are made extra deep to compensate pillow top mattresses and the memory foam toppers, so my sheets were saggy! Also the ribbon idea sounds awesome! my current duvet has ribbon attached to the corners so I just scrunch my comforter and tie it in but I think Ill go back and add them to the comforter corners! maybe one to each side to! |
my duvet looks the same way. at first i thought i bought the wrong size but no. why make a duvet cover that is a foot bigger then the same size comforter???? i don't get it. |
Great idea about the ribbon. I'll have to try it. But I also have another duvet problem-before I got Bubba, I had a beuatiful WHITE duvet cover and I guess I don't even need to go there. So I got a light green one, then we got Sissy. Between the two of them with their scratching up (it was woven so they broke threads)a comfortable nest to lay in and the carp they drag in from the outside (dirt, sand, leaves and twigs)it got to be a mess. So, I just went out, purchased a dark maroon red one (plain striped cotton) figuring the problem would be finally solved. Now there are white stops on the duvet from where they lay and chew on their bully sticks, sand, leaves and slobber show up like crazy. Plus you can see every indentation from where they have walked and rested on the bed. I think the solution is to just throw a plastic sheet over the bed or just sleep on a mattress on the floor! p.s. getting rid of them is out of the question |
Same problem here, I use a FULL electric blanket in a TWIN size duvet ... and then use the safety pins .... seems silly that these things do not match well. My poofy comforter works well Twin in Twin ... |
We have a duvet that fits pretty well. I can relate to the threads being broken from them scratching, but our cover is cotton and flat, and when I have Max up on it, he doesn't have his toys and he never gets things like Bully Sticks anyhow, so I don't have that problem. Also, the bed is high enough that he can't just jump up onto it. The main thing that we do though to protect it is to fold it down to the very end of the bed when we go to bed. We never sleep with the comforter pulled up and we don't sleep on top of it. Sometimes, Max will lie down on it at the end of the bed for awhile if he's waiting for me to come to bed, but he usually wants to be right next to us if we're in bed. I have extra blankets on a bench at the end of the bed if we get cold. I've used the ribbon method before and it really helps a LOT. This particular duvet and cover seem to stay together pretty well, so I didn't need to do it with it. Quote:
