Contract Sewing... I'm desperatly looking for help with the sewing of my PocoMutt stuff. My hands are killing me and there is just not enough time in a day to keep up with all the work. A local search came out negative and I'm looking now for a contract sewer whom I can send the pre cut items to and get them back finished. My question is if somebody here has experience with it and could tell me how that's supposed to work and maybe I'm lucky and find a helper right here on YT???????? Mitzi wants her mommie back! |
I don't have any suggestions, but congrats on being so busy!! And good luck w/finding some help :) |
I love to sew, but don't know if I'd be good enough for you. I'd be willing to try a sample for you. Just send me your instructions and I'm sure I'd be able to do it. |
I also do alot of sewing. Maybe I can help. |
When my Mother used to sew she was paid per piece. I would have your prospective contract sewer enter into a non-disclosure/non -compete agreement first though, so you don't run the risk of someone stealing your patterns. |
I certainly feel for you! It's too bad you couldn't find someone local to you :( Shipping things out seems like an extra expense that will get costly. My other concern would be, will the quality be what you expect? Just a thought and this is what i had to do last year, but maybe you could downsize a bit and specialize in only a few things? I certainly know how you feel and this time of year is just so busy! ((HUGS)) |
I know Des has been doing that recently to make sure she gets all her holiday items out in time. You might want to PM her and see how she found someone and what her experience has been with using outside help. |
How about retirees that like to sew? Every time I go to the fabric store there is allways some older ladies picking up fabrics for projects around the house. |

Be careful with contract sewing or outsourcing your products, many times it can compromise the quality of your design plus you have to be very careful who you trust with your patterns and designs. Ive known some people that had thier designs stolen this way which is just really sad. My best friend works for me and this is the only way I can trust to have someone help me with my orders becasue this way I personally trained her and I oversee everything that she makes and I can be in control of my designs and products. We also work together by doing a 2-person assembly line type process to try and speed up sewing a bunch of orders are one time. This works nicely for us. So if you have a close personal friend of family member that maybe you can train you might like that better. |

At least I found you more "Maltese" flannel. :) I agree with Shana. I'd be worried about quality control since it's your name and reputation on the line. I actually stopped shopping with someone I'd bought dog clothes from for many years because she started using helpers. I began to have problems with fit and orders being messed up and just got tired of sending things back. Why can't you do what some of the others do and just shut down when the orders get ahead of you? (I know that's easy for me since I just got my new pajamas today!) |
I wish I were closer...I would help you in a heartbeat! Best of luck to you! |
Sonja I hope you find the help you need it, and I also hope that person do a great job like you do:thumbup: |
I have thought of doing something like that,However I like sewing at my own pace and even that can get so hectic at times. I wonder how much you would need to pay someone ,will you make a profit? Good luck! |
