How the HECK did this happen?
 
Yes, I realize that this is the third thread I've started in 15 minutes, but listen to this...

I walk up the stairs to my apartment and walk into my bedroom. I have two dressers; one is tall and one is wide with a mirror. The tall one somehow tumbled over (no idea how this happened at ALL).

Well, my entire antique green glass collection was on topic of it and most of my pieces, including my most favorite piece were shattered all over the carpet. On top of that, Stewie grabbed a piece and ran with it. He's ok. No cuts or anything, but I am DEVASTATED. I live upstairs from my dad and I ran down there to ask him if he knew what the hell happened and he said he heard a thud earlier, but thought it was something outside.

I've been collecting green glass for about 10 years now. I am so upset :( and confused as to how it could have toppled over like that :confused:

Very pretty. I actually have a couple pieces of green glass too. One vase and the other a bowl. I thought maybe since you have so many that you would have it insured depending on how much it was all worth. In any case, I hope you can replace some pieces. I like to go to estate sales and I notice that quite a few have pieces like that depending on where you go.

Nothing insured :( I can barely insure myself ;) It was more of a sentimental value. I dont even know if they were worth anything monetarily honestly.

I collect the depression glass too (in pink though). I have gotten so attached to some of the pieces. I'm so sorry, i would be devistated if something happend to my collection.

Thank goodness you and Stewie were not in harms way, you two are NOT replaceable.

since you live in illinois i would say earthquake was out of the question...... :confused: , is there a possibility that someone was actually in your apartment???? i have a hard time believeing that it just toppled over like that

So sorry for you in losing your special collection! I'm so glad no one was hurt! I can't imagine how something could just fall like that. I know sometimes, a taller piece of furniture would seem to slant forward, so I would put something under the front legs to steady it better. If yours did fall all on it's own, you should probably try to figure a way to connect it to the wall or steady it better. Again, so sorry for what happened. Hugs to you!

Well geez, that sucks! I have a lot of sentimental things, too but luckily they aren't made of glass. (besides my heart :rolleyes: .. okay that was corny, but seriously!)

Do you remember where you bought them at? Aww, sorry about your loss but luckily noone was in the way when it fell

OH NO! I too collect antiques and I know the years it takes to build up your collection. You might be able to find replacement pieces on eBay and put them up in a hutch or something. That way, they can't be knocked off.

Kristy, I'm so sorry about the accident! Maybe you will be able to replace some of your favorites. Ebay is such a wonderful resource. I too collect things, mostly bears and baskets. I also have about 20 photo albums that I have done over the last 9 years that I have been scrapbooking. I would be devastated if something happened to them. I wish I could help...hope you feel better soon.

I'm so sorry. that reminds me of this green set i have. its like a wine set. (even though we don't drink wine..) i saw it at a garage sale and bought it for 6 dollars!!! its really pretty it has 6 cups and the big thing that holds the wine. we don't use it its just decoration. well a few days ago my cat broke one of the cups. i'm sorry for your loss that really stinks!!!

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I don't see myself trying to replace the stuff. I mostly like to just come across stuff at estate sales and once in a while a gem will be at a place like the Salvation Army or a White Elephant store. I will eventually build up my collection again.

Megan - I had a wine chiller like that. It was all shattered :( I had a blue one, too, but I gave it to my mom. She actually uses it once in a while :)

My heart goes out to you. I lost everything in a tornado about seven years ago and it was the sentimental items that I miss the most. But I also know how much comfort Stewie can give you. Hope you are able to replace your pieces.

oh really?? thats really sad that yours broke. mine plays music but its still useable. its very interesting! that was very nice of you to give it to your mom. the green one is pretty the blue one must be georgeous!
