Favorite Holiday Recipe? The holidays always put me in a cooking mood. :) My favorite thing to make is peanut butter blossoms. Everyone always loves those and they're fun to make with my little sister since they're so easy. What's your favorite? I'd love to try new recipes this year! |
My favorite is my mother's dressing (yum) :dribble: Slow Cocker Stuffing 1 cup butter, melted 2 cup celery, chopped 1 cup onion, chopped 1 tsp. poultry seasoning 1 ½ tsp. leaf sage, crumbled ½ tsp. pepper 1 ½ tsp. salt 1 tsp. thyme 2 eggs, beaten 4 cup chicken broth 12 cup dry bread crumbs In a large bowl, mix together butter, celery, onion, spices, eggs and broth. Add bread crumbs and stir to blend. Cook in slow cocker on high for 45 minutes; reduce heat and cook on low for 6 hours. (You can add other ingredients to suit your taste) |
Here's another one :dribble: Green Bean Wraps 2 cans whole green beans 1pk bacon (cut in ½) ½ cup brown sugar ½ cup butter (melted) sprinkle: lemon pepper and garlic salt Mix together melted butter & brown sugar. Add lemon pepper & garlic salt. Set aside. Wrap a few green beans in ½ strip of bacon (can secure with toothpicks). Place in casserole. Pour mixture over bean wraps. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Cover with foil. |
Here is one of my favorite soups for cold weather :dribble: Tortellini Soup 3 (14 ½ oz) cans chicken broth 2 (9oz) pkgs. refrigerated cheese-filled tortellini 1 (14 ½ oz) can diced tomatoes, un-drained 4 green onions, chopped 1tsp. dried basil 2 garlic cloves, minced Garnish: Shredded Parmesan Cheese Bring broth to a boil in large pan over med-high heat; add tortellini and next four ingredients. Rosemary Yams 13x9 rectangular or 10-12" round Baking dish 3-6 Yams (depending on how many people you're feeding) Olive Oil Dried Rosemary Fresh Garlic Pine Nuts (4 oz pkg.) Peel Yams, dice into 1" chunks Coat baking dish with a nice thin layer of Olive Oil Put Yams in dish, coat with Olive Oil & toss (use a generous amount) Peel garlic cloves-as many or as few as you like. (For 6 yams, I used 4 large cloves.) Smash with knife, and cut into a few smaller pieces. Generously sprinkle with rosemary and garlic pieces. Season with salt and pepper Cover with glass lid or foil Bake at 350 50 minutes, stirring every 15-20 minutes Sprinkle pine nuts on top of yams, bake uncovered 10 more minutes Put into serving bowl, top with more pine nuts if desired *** I got this from a friend of mine this year since I was tired of the marshmallow yam recipe-yuck! This is her mom's recipe-her mom's from Los Alamos, New Mexico-so we had a different flavors than the traditional midwestern stuff we usually have at Thanksgiving. These were a HIT and they were easy to make and are so tasty!!! I'll be making them again because they're soooo good! |
I made this salad for Thanksgiving, and everyone loved it, so I thought I'd share it with you all to use this holiday season. It's so festive, and looks like a restaurant salad (said my family, at least!!) -Mixed greens (I used a mixture of red leaf, green leaf, and endive-spinach would be great too, but anything works!) -1/4 small red onion, cut in rings, then cut rings in half -1-2 red pears, sliced -Bleu cheese crumbles -Pomegranate seeds -Candied walnuts (see recipe below) -Store-bought raspberry vinagrette Wash & dry greens, arrange on platter Put onions and pears on top of greens Sprinkle pomegranate and bleu cheese over top Pour dressing over salad Top with candied walnuts & Serve! Candied walnuts A. 1/2 cup white sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp ground cloves 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg Mix ingredients together in small bowl, set aside. B. Place 2 small pkg. whole walnuts on baking sheet, and toast at 350 for 5-10 minutes, being sure not to burn. C. Meanwhile, place an additional 1/2 cup white sugar in small saucepan on medium heat. Stir occasionally until sugar is completely melted. Remove walnuts from oven, and drop into melted sugar, stirring to coat evenly. When walnuts are coated, quickly remove them from the pan with a fork, letting excess sugar drip off, and drop separately onto waxed paper. Make sure to separate any that are sticking together with two forks-work quickly or they will stick together. Before the sugar cools, sprinkle with spoonfuls of sugar/spice mixture, and toss to coat. Let cool completely, store in tupperware until ready to make salad. |
OK, this might sound stupid, but WHAT is a peanut butter blossom? I've never heard of them and my hubby is a peanut butter freak!!! He insists I make chocolate peanut butter pie for every holiday  I would love to have a substitute. |
