Turkey Question :chicken: Happy Thanksgiving :chicken: Okay....I've had a fully cooked, never opened whole turkey (about 12lbs) in my freezer since last Thanksgiving...I bought, but my mother already had one. So.....I was wondering...do you think it would be good for Christmas??? |

http://www.norbest.com/d_fresh_frozen_refrig.cfm FROZEN USDA regulations specifiy that any turkey which has ever been cooled to zero degrees Fahrenheit or lower must be labeled "frozen". This should be no surprise, because they always have been! Most turkeys sold in the U.S. are frozen. All Norbest frozen turkeys are flash frozen to zero degrees or lower immediately after processing and held there all the way to the store. At this temperature they are rock hard solid frozen, just the way they should be! Frozen turkeys have the longest shelf life. They may be held almost indefinitely with no loss in wholesomeness, although some flavor and texture deterioration may occur after a couple of years. Frozen turkeys are often an advantage because they can be purchased in advance whenever it is most convenient or when they are on sale. Experts recommended that frozen turkeys be thawed before roasting, because the meat will be more moist. |
Actually, did you say it was cooked?? Honestly, I throw out leftovers after 3 days. I would just get a new one. And don't forget to brine it! :D |
It is a fully cooked frozen turkey...it is a whole turkey and looks like a raw turkey, but it comes fully cooked to save you cooking time on the "big" day. So, we have never opened it or thawed it, etc. If that all makes sense! |
Well, bacteria can't survive above a certain temp, I think 165. They recommend poultry go to 175-180. I suggest you get a meat thermometer :-) It's just a matter of how it will taste. |
WOW That's a long time - I would buy another one |
I'm not sure I would eat it. Did you open it? Is it freezer burned? |
