My 4 yr old is having surgery on December 6. They are removing her adnoids and putting tubes in her ears (but leaving her tonsils :scratchhe ) They are also going to flush her sinuses. She has "significant hearing loss" in her right ear, and "moderate hearing loss" in her left one. She also has two ear infections and strep throat that she is still on antibiotics for, and today they said she had a sinus infection as well. No wonder she's been so grumpy lately! Poor baby! |
Your poor daughter. Sinus infections are the pits. I have one now and am on antibiotics. She's so young. Sending a prayer that all will be just fine after the surgery and she'll feel so much better. |
Will her hear loss get better after the surgery. Poor baby. I'll pray for her. |
I hope it will get better after her surgery. It SHOULD since she won't have all that yucky fluid on them anymore. |
aww:( sorry we are sending postive thoughts, hugs and kisses and prayers your way! |
ah, bless her heart. my daughter had surgery at 4 also. hers was to repair some hernias. it was the saddest day. and super scary because i had no idea how she would react to be sedated. you just never know...but she was FINE. and so much better afterward!! i'm sure your daughter will be just fine. try not to worry too much mom!! just stay close and make sure you choose a great doctor that is good with children. i took trinity to Vanderbilt Childrens hospital and it was great because they were sooooooooooo good with her!! i wouldn't have made it through the day if they weren't so wonderful. hugs...and please keep us posted!!! |
awww...so sorry to hear about this. My little sister, 7, had her adnoids removed along with her tonsils and she was up and running around in about a week. My other sister had tubes in her ears twice and they seem to recover quickly from it. Yet we never did find the tubes when they fell out...hehe. Good luck on her surgery. I'll be thinking of her! |
I'm sure this is soooo stressful, but it sounds like she will be feeling tons better afterward. Please know we will be praying for you and your daughter. |
Thanks ya'll. MIke and I are both really nervous. Olivia, on the other hand, is excited about it. She really doesn't understand what surgery is so I told her its when you go to sleep, then the doctor comes and takes out the things that are making you sick. When you wake up the things that made you sick are gone and you start to feel LOTS better. She said, "Yahoo!! I'm going to get better!" So she is really excited. Of course, being told she gets ice cream to eat afterwards and that she can even have it for breakfast if she wants didn't hurt either. |

My son had the same surgery at age 4. Ask the doctor if he can but a stitch around the tubes so they dont fall out. Jimmy had three sets of tubes. I hope the doctor will give you some free ear plugs for the ears. Remember Shower caps and ear plugs around water . |
I'm so sorry about your daughter! I hope her surgery goes well, that poor baby:( |
2 of my four boy's, Kennedy and Lincoln, have had to have tubes put in and Lincoln had to also have tonsils and adenoids removed they were age 1 and age 2 when they had theirs done. Kennedy also had to have several surgery's before he was even a year old for GI problems that he had and that was so scarry to go through. Any surgery on any child regardless the age is scarry to think about! I was a nervous reck when they had their surgeries and al of them were at a world renown hospital for children too, Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital. I hope that all goes well for your little girl and she starts to feel better soon! My son's hearing improved with the tubes, they said that before the tube placements, he was hearing things as if the person talking had their hand over their mouth muffling the sound. |
:( That doesn't sound like fun. Hopefully the time will fly by for all of you and she can get it over with. |
awww I know you and her dad must be so nervous but im sure everything will turn out great! I know as parents we worry so so so much and its easier said than done but try not to worry too much she will be fine :-) |
Poor baby:( My stepson had his adenoids and tonsils out when he was around 6 years old. He still gets sick all the time, though:( He's now 17 and gets strep a few times a year. Prayers going up for your baby's surgery to be smooth as silk:hands: |
oh I'm so sorry. I'll keep both of you in my thoughts. I had tubes put in 7 times. I had HORRIBLE hearing when I was really young (I was actually born almost completly deaf). As I got older, my hearing got better, and after the last time they fell out (about 5-6 years ago) I haven't needed them. Just make sure that she wears ear plugs whenever she's around water! I used a swimmers headband, and it covers the ears so that she can't get water in them, but she can still hear you when you talk. :) |
Saying a prayer for Olivia (love that name). Hugs to you and her.:ghug: |
Thank you everyone for the prayers, hugs, and good thoughts. Hopefully she will feel lots better after this! |
awww my son had his tonsils out when he was 3, and you will be amazed at how fast they bounce back! Fortunately, we were able to avoid the tubes in his ears by putting him on antibiotics for a week before he had his tonsils out. I will keep your little one in my prayers! |
Aww I will keep your daughter in my thoughts and prayers. I hope it works and that she feels better real soon. |
awww poor baby you will all be in our prayers :) my son was 1 before he had tubes in his ears he for the most part couldnt ever hear anything. he woke up in recovery cried and as soon as he seen me it was all better on the way home he freaked out on everynoise he heard. when he was 6 he had adnoides and tinsiles removed that was hard on him but it only took a few days and he was ok, then he over did it and was right bk to square one again for a few days. |
Thoughts and prayers for both of you. My kids had that done too, but the ice cream when ever they wanted made them feel better;) ;) ;) Everything will be OK, I bet she even shares her ice cream with you.:ghug: |
She'll do fine, you'll be a mess, that will be the longest 30 minutes of your life. My Grand-d had tube's & tonsils/adenoids out when she was 2. She's 4 now and no more infections and her ears are fine. Prayers for you both. |
