Weird question... I have a few things that I need to ship. Can I use a box that something else came in that has print and pictures on the outside if I ship with UPS or USPS (I'll most likely ship with UPS- but it's not definite)? I hate to have to PAY for a cardboard box. I did that last year with UPS and I paid 5 or 6 dollars! |

If you ship using USPS prioirty mail you get to use a priority mail box for free, which depending on the weight of your item (especially if it is more than a pound) it is usually the most economical and fastest way to ship  But to answer your question if using the post office yes you can ship something in someone else box or boxes with print on it, but depending on what the print is they may want you to mark over it. Like for example of it says something such as "vodka" on it you definetly have to mark it out because its flamable and they want to be sure you mark out any previous addresses with a marker or cover it up with the new address. Hope that helps :) |
You can as long as all the barcodes and addresses are covered up with a permenant marker |
Or you can go to a dollar store and get some tan paint and paint the box or the areas that you feel may be questionable. Definetely mark out all bar codes and shipping info or tracking numbers. |
Sometimes I just take the box apart and put it back together inside out! Takes a little tape but works perfectly and no words or pictures on the box. I love to recycle when I can. There is also a store in my town that has just the sizes I need from their shipments every week, so oftentimes I will go on the day I know they are unpacking and get some from there and they are happy to give them to me. Beats filling up the landfills. |
Great idea, LittleBit! You can also wrap an old box in brown paper bags (just cut to size). I reuse boxes all the time-I tape them up, and then put a new piece of paper on the top with the address, and put clear tape over the whole thing. |
I have wrapped boxes using cut up paper bags or the cheap white or brown wrapping paper. |

Thanks so much everyone! I think I'll either wrap it in brown paper (I actually have a roll of it that I bought awhile ago) or just mark out the bar codes. I try to avoid USPS because they are so much more busy (I hate waiting in line there whenever I go), RUDE, and never update their shipping tracker-thing. By the time it updates it's already arrived! |
As long as they can clearly see the name and address you can use the already used box. I always do. |

Priority boxes are free and the PO worker told me today that since the increase that most packages (depending on weight) go only a few cents cheaper parcel than priority...so I always ask what the difference will be. Make sure you mark thru the barcodes and any zip codes/addresses. I kept one of those big "magic" markers in my packing stuff. Sometimes, I will cover things with the brown packing tape or just plain paper too! |
or you can use the box and using a brown paper bag and wrap it in that ... |
