i only need reading glasses. but i have found that my sight has gotten progressively worse. i need to go have it checked again. :(

FL Tink 11-16-2007 06:04 AM

I really want to have it done also! I have been wearing contacts 25 yrs.
Blind without them. Maybe that would make a nice xmas present hee hee

Ida 11-16-2007 06:15 AM

I've been thinking about this for a long time - and I'm too scared to do it. I can't imagine laying there with my eyes open while they work on them. - It sort of grosses me out- why can't they just knock you out - and when you wake up voila - you have sight.

Breny 11-16-2007 06:51 AM

Congrats!!!!!!

I know how good you must feel!!! I wore glasses since I was in the 1st grade  About 6 years ago I got it done and its amazing!!!

If you have good vision you wouldn't appreciate this but how awesome is it to actually SEE in the Shower!!! To actually wake up and look at the clock and see it!!! To not come in from the cold and have your glasses fog up!!!

You are going to LOVE it and CONGRATS again !!!

Saleswman 11-16-2007 07:07 AM

Oh that was funny!!!!

ROFLMBO That was so appropriate....ha ha ha ha ha.....you are soo right!!!!

Saleswman 11-16-2007 07:09 AM

Price...is changing

Price ranged from 299 per eye to 1100 per eye......
Price not what it used to be....about the price of a new pair of glasses!

That is just awesome!!! I really want to get it done. I have been wearing glasses since I was 8 and then got contacts when I was 13. I finally just went a year where they didn't get worse so I am hoping I can get it done in about 2 years. Can't next year because of the wedding.

sassyfire1956 11-16-2007 07:51 AM

i want that so bad- i have heard it is great! Lucky you!

ARCHIE 11-16-2007 08:12 AM

You must feel so good. Glasses are a pain.
My SIL had it done about two years ago and he also said
he was sorry he waited so long. The important thing is you
did it. Good for you.

AngieDoogles 11-16-2007 08:14 AM

I wish I could do it! I've been considering it seriously for quite a while now, but I always chicken out...

girlybella 11-16-2007 08:43 AM

Glad you are enjoying your new vision!! I actually just went my eye doctor and looked into this and found out that I am not a candidate because I have such a strong astigmatism and really bad perscription....I mean they said they could do it but my vision would still be pretty bad, uugh. My doctor did let me know that there is a new laser procedure coming out end of 2008 or sometime in 2009 that I WOULD be a candidate for so I am really looking forward to being able to participate. My Dad, Aunt, and numerous friends have all had the lasik and loved the results and are so happy that they had their eyes corrected...;)

Yorkiekids 11-16-2007 08:45 AM

Congratulations on your new eyes.

Lou 11-16-2007 11:24 AM

 I had it a couple of years ago and I too recommend it. For one thing I got tired of washing my hair with conditioner because I couldn't even read the stupid bottle labels in the shower. I didn't have to take anything for pain and don't remember having any. My eyes teared a lot the first few hours but I slept through most of that too becasue I had the tranquilizer. It was expensive but I would do it agaim.
Oh yeah, my vision was effected as I see slight halo's around lights but it isn't bad.
Do it!

I want to have it done sooooo bad....but DH isn't liking the price....I keep telling him it would be soooo worth it....we will see....he is in the process of paying off my credit cards, so I'm not pushing!

When I looked into it last year.....they were offering the newest version of Lasik....called cyoptic (sp?) something...it is suppose to be a lot better....it was up to $3k per eye or something like that!

I wish it would work for him....his eyes are weird...he was born legally blind in one eye (you can't tell though) and his other eye has just grown to make up for it....it is like he has perfect vision.....BUT I would love to find a procedure to correct the bad eye...because with just one good eye...it is scary to think that if anything happens to it, he will be blind!

its actually not gross at all. You can't see anything to begin with if you have bad eyes and the laser and tools he uses is so close to your eye you can't even see it. The only thing you can see is the red and green lights of the laser. i didn't see anything else. The process only takes a few minutes so it wouldn't be worth it to knock you out, not to mention the price would increase.

Yup! Its the little thing everyone else takes for granted that you find amazing after the surgery. I was so happy to be able to see the clock from my bed without having to move over and hold it up to my face to read the time. LOL

Saleswman 11-16-2007 07:59 PM

You know what I did

Well.....I had been thinking of it for years...in fact did a consultation in the early 90's....but, could not afford it then........so this time....I set up another consultation on a Sat. I went in talked to the educator.....turned to hubby and said...."what do you think?" and he says...."sounds good to me, and yu have been wanting it for a long time....so go for it!!" So I did! I did not give myself much time to worry......since I had already thought about it for so long I knew it would only cause me more delay ......and they did it that day! But, I admit....I scrutinized every person that came and left the office to see if they looked in pain or not.....all of them were smiling..!!!!

So, I recommend that you go in for a consultation......get the cost.....and then make it work.....you will be so glad you didi!!!

And NO I do not sell Lasix services......:):)

Christina,
How "bad" is your vision? Everyone says they're blind, but I typically jealous of their prescription. :D I've worn glasses since 3 years old and got soft contacts when they came out. So I'm afraid my eyesight might be too bad also. Is there a name of the soon-to-be-available surgery that I can look into?

i know this wasn't directed to me but my prescription was a -6.75 in my left eye and -6.5 in my right, with a slight astigmatism. My surgery was more expensive them my friends or sisters who had it done at the same place because my eyes were so bad. Glasses since i was 5, contacts at 11 years old to stop the progression.

Thanks. I'm actually about the same amount the other way. My doctor told me that I'm so far sighted that by the time things are clear to me, they're too far away to see. :p

LOL exactly. i was so blind that to read without glasses or contacts i had to hold the book less then a foot from my face. so if my eyes were as bad as yours i'd go to the consult and check it out. You can probably be done.

If anyone needs a recommended doctor in NYC let me know

PMing you!

ocmommyof2 11-17-2007 07:34 PM

I had the surgery 2 years ago and am so glad I did! My vision was terrible...8.50 and 8.75. Glasses since first grade and then hard contacts when they came out and then soft when they came out. I wasn't sure if they could fix my vision completely but it is still an amazing 20/25!! Can't complain! I would recommend it to anyone!

sammiz 11-17-2007 07:38 PM

I had my eye surgery a few years ago and have never regretted anything except for having waited so long.

My vision was so bad that I needed my glasses to find my glasses, LOL. Wore contacts for a few years and hated them.

I did/do have a problem with dry eyes and so my vision would get a bit worse as the day progressed and to drive at night, I wore glasses. It was funny in that if I took a nap, or at least closed my eyes for an hour or so...perfect vision once again!

I have since had the plugs put it my tear drain ducts and don't need the glasses at all.

If anyone is considering this, don't waste time. Go for it! You'll be thankful you did.

AVERYxo 11-17-2007 11:53 PM

my brother had this done, like i said before-he is only 20 years old..and his eyes were soo bad!! serisously HORRIBLE!! his vision was-9.5 before his initial surgery!! poor thing..:( Anyways-he had the first surgery done about 3 months ago-and i took him today for a touch up procedure(which they figured they would probably need to do, cuz his eyes were so bad) They basically did the same procedure just not as invasive(im guessing?)

He is SO SO happy he did it.. it sersiously changed his life(no more contacts everyday, glasses at night, not to mention being literally blind if he didnt have his glasses/contacts in) like the others said before..most definately DO IT, if you can!! ..and Christmas is coming up!!?-hehe.):p;)

(oh yeah..i dont know if anyone ever watched Newlyweds-nick&jessica..when it was on MTV a couple years ago?? well anyways.. there is an episode where jessica gets her eyes lasered with her assistant casey, and they went to the same doctor my brother did-kinda random huh. haha. the guys office is soooo nice and so is everyone that works in there as well-;))
