Cats peeing in house... i caught our big kitty, Muffin, peeing in the corner just as I was about to step out for work a few days ago. I stopped her, scolded her, and put her in her litter box....and I hoped that it was over. then I felt in that same corner later in the week and felt it was damp again. the kicker was last night that she pee'd all over the couch!! i didn't know a cat could urinate so much! it was disgusting.... we got one of those automatic litter boxes and sometimes it just keeps raking and raking on its own b/c of it getting stuck or whatever, so I was thinking that maybe she just is afraid of that box or dislikes it...so I put down a "standard" litter box in another room and introduced it to her, hoping she'll like it... i took her to the vet today to get a urine analysis done and i'm waiting on results from that. any of you had this problem and what did you do to stop it? |
is your cat neutered ,if not he will keep doing it.hes marking his territory. |
I just noticed it was a girl ,sorry she might have urinary infection.have you moved her litter box latley my cats dont like it if i move their litter boxes. |
Could be UTI, anxiety, stress, or just doesn't like the liter box. If this persist try Feliway, it comes in a spray or plug-in. |
I have a friend who purchased an automatic litter box. The kitty was terrified of it and would not use it. She used the carpets instead. :eek: Maybe it is the litterbox... |
I hope it's just the litter box. When our cat started doing that it turned out to be diabetes. It was not fun giving him insulin shots every day. |
My cat - out of the blue - started peeing on all the dog beds and anything left on the floor. She has NEVER done anything like that before. I noticed she was straining to go and was only going small amounts. I finally took her to the vet yesterday and $122.00 later found out she had an UTI. The vet said she had a bunch of blood and bacteria in her bladder. Now she is on antibiotics. I noticed a tiny pee on the floor today that had blood in it. I hope the meds start helping fast. So, it could be someting like that or one of the other things suggested. It's good you got her checked out, though. :thumbup: |

My cat did this once on my carpet...right in front of me! This is usually their way of telling you that something isn't quite right. I brought him to the vet and he did have a UTI. However, I did have a cat once that simply would not use a litter box. I didn't realize this because she was going in our mud room that had brown carpeting. Only when it got warm did I notice the horrible smell. You cannot get rid of it! I tried EVERYTHING...nothing worked. We had to replace the rug, the plywood and the mop board in the corner where she went. We replaced the carpet with slate tile. She was hit and killed by a car when she was a year old. I was very sad but then on the other hand I was glad I didn't have a cat peeing on my carpet anymore. We did get another cat/kitten and when we brought him in the house he went right to that corner!! Even though we had replaced everything and put down slate tiles he went right to that corner and started sniffing. Cat urine is so strong he must have been able to smell it even though we couldn't. Sometimes you just have a dirty cat and sometimes they are trying to tell you something is wrong. I hope he is ok. |
my girl cat started this and i took her to the vet numerours times she would bunch up clothes and towels int he bathroomand them poop on them and pee all over teh couches in the corners etc wellt hey siad it was stress from frankie bugging her he would chase her every no and then or her would run after her if she ran to fast away and they said thats what it was her stress |
I am keeping my daughter's cat right now because she couldn't get her to stop peeing and pooping on the carpet. We brought her to my house since I have concrete and hardwood floors, to see if she would stop. And she did - she uses the litter box all the time. My daughter had her checked for UTI and she didn't have one - she just would not consistently use the litter box. So, I guess we'll be keeping her. She is a gorgeous rag doll cat and is actually my granddaughter's cat. When you pick her up, she just goes limp and hangs there like a rag doll - she doesn't try to get down or anything. Unfortunately, I cannot get Rexy and Rowdy to stop chasing her. They don't chase her all the time, but when they do.... look out! :eek: Anyway, I think some cats just do that |
There is little in the world worse than cat pee!! Our cat (16 yrs old) began peeing on the carpet last year. No medical reason, just old, I guess. Once they have a spot, it is so difficult to get them to stop. If you clean the spot with an enzyme cleaner, make sure that you follow the directions to a "T". Douse the area, and keep it wet (cover with wet towels and keep the towels wet) for a couple of days to allow the enzymes time to work all the way down to the padding. It will stink during this time! :eek: We did this a few times and even then, she would be drawn to that spot. Now, poor old Blondie only has access to a couple of rooms upstairs. She has two litter boxes because her kidneys are obviously shutting down and she drinks and pees A LOT! Poor ol' gal. |
One of the cats my brother used to have had "issues", the mental kind. Visitors to the house, vacuuming, anxiety would make her puke. Then that progressed onto peeing on the furniture to the point they had to get new furniture and rugs. Once that happened they got the shock mat to use on top of the furniture and the Feliway spray and plug in that I previously mentioned. It helped somewhat but that cat eventually died from being too stressed out. |
I had 2 very large cats that started uninating large amounts and frequently. Alway in the box, tho. Both turned out having diabetes. Sending prayers that it isn't that. |
