Periferal Subjects I was worried at first when I noticed the great increase in Off Topic threads recently because I have been on forums where "regulars" get "talked out" on the basic subject matter and the board becomes boring and dies. That is not going to happen here because we continually get new members and lots of them daily. I think that helps keep this forum "fresh" and alive. I also think that admin is just now really enforcing that OT items really need to be in OT and the members are responding by coming here more than before. Where maybe you used to be afraid to start a thread in OT for fear it would get missed, that fear is not so great anymore. Plus I think that the issues that affect this board which aren't specifically about yorkies are about the realtionships that have developed here which is "periferal" but still important. For instance who hits 500 posts and wishing people a happy birhtday. Any thoughts? |

Well...I mean this in the NICEST Way - but I happen to like saying happy birthday to people.... and recall you just did a post regarding birthdays in General Discussion - If that was in OFF TOPIC many people wouldn't have seen it - Same with the congratulation posts - again - I remember you did some and they were commented on - in Off Topic they may not have been seen. I agree some things need to be here but it seems like the Admin is doing a good job moving things after the majority of people have seen the original thread...This is JUST my opinion - |
I agree with you. When I first started on YT I really didn't know where to put what, and I think a lot of newbies did what I did and put most everything in gen dis to make sure it's seen or just because they didn't know better. As new people join, new issues and questions come up. We all have lives apart from our yorkies (I think ;) ) and it's nice to have a place to just talk about anything and everything. That's cute Windy - me too - I posted pics all the time in General Discussion till I realized the section MY Yorkie is the place they go - it IS a big site - and sometimes the Congratulations and other post can boggle General Disc - but I've noticed lately they get moved and the moderators seem to really let them stay long enough for everyone to post if they want to - then they go to their new home.... |
i think we wouldnt all be as close as we are if we didnt go offtopic when you and your friend has a baby do you just talk about your new baby no i like if i have a other than yorkie problem i can come here and i really love that about this site i like knowing more about the people here than i do about my own family |
:wavey: My thought is, Let the Admin decide to move something or not. That is what they are there for. Since this is not "my" forum I don't make the rules, I just agree to abide by the rules in place. If I post something in the wrong place, I'm really sorry. I Personally don't care where someone starts a new thread, or what the thread is about. I just reply or I don't. I really don't have the time or the inclination to worry about where someone else posts a thread. I just like to read what is going on, and try to learn as much as I can about yorkies and I like to think that I have met some new friends. |
I think that many will now be afraid to start a new post for fear of placing it in the wrong section!! Ana :thumbdown |
I thought that the biggest problem with this was when vendors were posting links to their sites and products in the general section. |

I think admin has handled it great and has been fairly "gentle" with his reminders and all. Don't you? |

BUT NOW, I think more people will spend more time on OT because we are "yorkie friends" and we want to know about the "PERIPHERAL" things. :D |
