Totally off topic but need to vent OK so i had a horrible day at work I have worked at the American Cancer Society for a little over a year now and today i get told everyone thinks i have an attitude problem and i quote " you walk around all day never smiling, you dont talk" Well excuse me for doing my JOB instead of trying to win a popularity contest, excuse me for not being FAKE like everyone else in my office. God cant i just be myself i am sorry if am am not PERKY enough I am sorry my favorite color is Black but guess what you didnt hire me because i was miss perfect you hired me because i can do the job!!!!!! AAAAAH sorry needed to get that out. |
Everyone needs to vet every once in a while! Just makes you feel better. Don't even think twice about what those people said. I got in trouble with my boss because I didn't smile and laugh enough. Mind you, I work in a high school taking care of 2,000+ students. I was too busy to talk and be sociable. But, I got called into his office for it. So, ya just can't win them all. I started being REAL OUTGOING after that, but it wasn't the real me. I felt like I had to put on a show even though I didn't have time for it. |
Many years ago, people did the same to me. They would ask me what was wrong. What was right was that I was busy doing my job on the stack of files on my desk. I used to close my office door so that I could concentrate and not be distracted by the chattering in the office but they could see me through the ceiling to floor glass panel on the side of my door. Oh well . . . I earned my paycheck and did my job well! No one ever had to second guess my work and it was always correct! When you're handling multi-million dollar accounts, there is no room for error. Don't let them get you down. Office politics suck! |
Thanks guys i really like what i do ACS is a wonderful job because of the work they do but ICK i hate working with all women who if you go to lunch with the wrong person you get talked about behind your back....oh well work work work tomorrow i will be so damn perky they will hate me even more. :p |
Angie- Just start acting like a Pop Star! That should really piss of some people they will start beggin you to wear black and get back to work! :D |
Some people are just plain jealous! |
I am a manager and an owner of a small business and I used to give my staff a lot of say in the decision making aspects so they would feel a sense of pride and want to do a better job, and also I did it to be liked. I thought if I listened to their ideas and didn't micro manage that everything would work better. I was wrong! Women especially are naturally catty and there will always be "cliques" and politics and no matter how hard you try you will never please everyone. Now, I just try to please myself and my husband. My employees respect me more and, they may not like me, but in my position, their respect is more important. |

I sort of had the same situation but mine was for diffrerent reasons. My old boss told me I never smiled and they said I had bad posture. Well guess what? I HATED that job. So I quit workign there and all of a sudden I stood up straighter :p and smiled more :D . I am not suggeseting that for you. Like I said I didnt smile because I hated my boss and my job. And besides why smile? I was underpaid and had NO benefits( not even holidays off) and its not like I ever actually dealt with customers. I worked at an accouting office. What was there to smile about? They made me so mad everyday  . But now I am my own boss :D :D :D . There's something to smile about :D . Hope you have better days at work! |
I really love my job just really hate the people i work with i mean i get 25 paid days off a year(not including holidays we get those off too) pay is great...is for a great cause i just am not a people person |
I got chastised once for leaning on my desk! That was years ago and I still get mad about it! |

So sorry you had a bad day at work. I hope your day was better today. Gucci sents you a lot of puppy kisses. |
Unfortunately politics is everywhere... :( I am not a b*tt kisser and it has hurt me in my "career" My boss didn't like me and when she gave me my written eval a long time ago and the neg comment she said was "I tested too much" (I was a software tester). I was like give me a break! Isn't that my job? She didn't like me because I didn't "hang out" with her and her clique during lunch and after hours. ugh! Luckily I moved out of her group and into a new one a few weeks later. But since it was an eval it was in my records. I can't give you much advice only to say, hang in there and sometimes when things seem like they are so bad there may be a rainbow around the corner... |

I got in trouble at work once cause I joke around TOO much...The high-point was after a particularly GREAT joke...(I made a bumper sticker saying "Proud to be Gay" and put it on a salesmans car).... (he was one of those macho straight stud guys) ...Anyway....after THAT one - I got the lecture on not taking my job serious enough....it was done on my lunch hour too ... The answer I had and still would say was that ....I DID my job - I had no problems with anyone - and in order for me to continue to DO MY JOB - I had to be ME. An unhappy person always worried about other people will NOT do a good job - The best employee is one who is able to be natural at work - do their best... and not what other people are saying....Period. Within 2 years I went from receptionist to being secretary to the Pres of the company till it closed down 4 years ago.... But if I were you - I'd come to work totally opposite and see how fast they want the old you back ! |
I can relate to this. I worked for the government for 25 years. I was told once that I didn't know how to play the game. I responded by telling my supervisor that "Nope, don't play and don't want to learn, but I can sleep at night". Didn't get my annual raise, so I retired. Good to Vent or Retire. |

My last job, I worked at a chemical plant and loved every aspect of it except the 3 women that I worked with at different time intervals. They were rude, catty and psycho! I even had one woman steal my work which was locked in a desk and she was the only other person that had a key. A week later, the work showed back up in the exact same spot where I had left it. Pissed me off because I had already retyped everything. I have work in a hair salon, too. The women there were horrendous. This is why I don't have very many female friends. Aquaintaces, sure, but not friends. I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. My best friend also deals with this where she works (hospital). I've just never worked with a bunch of women and with the being women civilized. |
I did find I love working with men. My last job I was admin to a Production Engineering group. ALL MEN (50 of them)! They were great, they appreciated everything I did, I really had my own job, helped out the GM and the VP, showed the guys how to operate the copy machine, phones, computers, how to sort excel - all of this was 'just a favor' to them. It was not my job, but I loved to help them out. I could do my job with my eyes closed. Before that I managed a Nurse Staffing Service. All women. I was so burned out by the time I quit (without having a job), after 7 years. I loved my nurses, but the office people drove me absolutely batty! Nothing made anybody happy. Give me the guys - anytime. Oh, and one of my guys was told he was too happy. I told him it was ok. then one day, he told me the VP was unfriendly. I reminded him - everyone is different, he is just busy and not a talker. Say Hi!, he will say Hi. They were both great guys. |
