Playdate in Central Pa - Please come!!!!!! If you live within an easy drive of Mechanicsburg, PA (just outside of Harrisburg) we hope to see you on Saturday, March 11 at 2pm. It'll be a great opportunity to get to know other yorkie owners while our furbabies get to socialize! Also that weekend, Susquehanna Service Dogs is having their Pawsability event at the Farm Show Building in Harrisburg. It's a lot of fun, and if you're coming to the area anyway, it'd be a chance to make a day of it! If you're interested, their website is http://www.keystonehumanservices.org/ssd/pa/pa.php PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS THREAD TO KEEP IT GOING! :) If you're interested, please email me at jlnedgo@comcast.net and I'll get back to you with information and directions Hope to see you there! |
Ginger's very excited to meet some new yorkie friends! |
Pixel and I will be there. Thanks so much for organizing the play group!!! |
Sounds great! I'm going to look up directions now!! Hopefully JD and I can make it! :D |
I'll join in sometime this summer if there is one going on. Hopefully my puppy will be here by then. |
Yaay! glad some of you can make it...and we hope to keep it going into the summer and beyond. |
When I checked the directions yesterday it said it's almost a 2 hour drive :( |
where would you be coming from? |
we hope you can make it...please let us know! okay, so far I've only got one confirmed...and one who thought they would be here, but then realized it was too far (I certainly understand that). when I first asked about this a few weeks back there was A LOT of interest. Where is everyone? If you just can't make it, please let me know, and definately let me know if you will be there. While ginger is anxious to meet some new playmates, ginger's mommy needs to make certain that it's worthwhile to pay for the space! So, if you live in or near central pa and would like to get together with other yorkies and their owners, please post here, or send me an im or an email. Hope to hear from more of you soon! |
I'm so sorry, I meant to post sooner! I'm thinking really hard about this. When we first talked about this, I didn't have Lilah yet. Turns out the poor girl is terrified of strangers. I know if we went she wouldn't play, and I would be holding her, shaking, in my arms the entire time! But I do really want to come and see your yorkies! What do you think? It's an hour drive... is it worth it? |
awww, poor lilah! I didn't realize that you were getting someone new. How old is she? Any pics? I've been taught to socialize, socialize, socialize, but in a SAFE, CONTROLLED setting. It seems to have worked pretty well for Ginger, she's alot more outgoing now...but we go to dog club at least once each week and we've been attending some kind of training almost continuously since she came home. Even with all that, there are times when she'd prefer to sit between my feet, behind me, or in my lap, away from all the other dogs. But, she's learned she has a voice, and can also play as hard as the rest of them. It's really hard when your baby seems terrified to keep her out in the world (I know), but I believe its the only way they become comfortable around strangers and other animals. That being said, only you know if it's worth the hour drive. You do know you'd be ending up amongst a group of people that really understand the special needs of our little ones. Whatever you decide, keep us posted on how she's doing, maybe later we can get them together...or if something comes up closer to you, let me know...in keeping with what I said earlier, I socialize Ginger every chance I get! Good luck! |
Thank you for the advice :) She is 8 months old. I posted pics of her today here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33446 I'll be talking to you this week :) |
she's a cutie! it's really not advice, i'm still new at this and learning as i go...just me yammering on a bit too long! |
Hi Amanda, It is crucial that you socialize your puppy. My puppy was a very timid when we started puppy school in mid-Jan. He is very outgoing now and has no problem with strangers or other dogs. What they taught me at puppy school is that when your dog is acting scared like that, you are only reinforcing the behavior by holding her. They made me put my puppy on the floor. He was scared at first but he snapped out of it pretty quickly. He really enjoys going to puppy school now. If you can make it, I would suggest coming out. I would also suggest looking into some sort of formal class to keep your puppy interacting with people and dogs on a regular basis. It really made a big difference for my puppy. |
I would be coming from King of Prussia. I really think it's too far of a drive. Sorry! |
