Any advice for "fleas and ticks"? I am looking for advice on the fleas and ticks preventatives... i know it poison, and i also know it works well.... i had that conversation with the vets... now comes the point: It seems to be way too strong for Maxx... He gets really lazy and letargic for a few days after we put it on.... i tried the "front line" i also tried other brands... i discussed it with the vets and they really do not give us all that much of choice. We go out a lot , and i have found ticks a few times... we love the dog parks... and he loves new friends besides rolling over on grass... i am already on "puppy cut" for many reasons... I read something about that "BIOSPOT" or something like that, supposed to be natural but i read somewhere, maybe here on YT , that a small dog died from using it and a few cats.... Anyways, how you guys deal with it? Any advice and discussion are welcome !!! All previous experience... i reaserch a lot on the breed, i also try to always be on top of things, i am not a new dog owner.... but even still i am sure many of you can help me and others out !!!! Please take the time to answer .... We appreciate it !!!! |
Revolution might be a possiblity...It is a heartworm and flea preventative that you put on between their shoulder blades. Their doses are 0-5 lbs, 5-10 lbs, etc... Some dogs have had adverse reactions though... I try not to use any of those on my two because they are very seldom outside where ticks and things can get to them. Nutritional yeast sprinkled on top of their food is supposed to help...Emma gets that in her food, and she does not ever have fleas... There are also natural sprays that you can make at home and spray on them right before you go out that are supposed to repel insects... |
There's no free lunch--you either keep your Yorkie away from where it will get ticks or you poison it with medication. |
I tried a few.... I tried the revolution... it is the same as yours, he gets so lazy for a few days.... i know it is quite strong for him... I heard about the yeast.... did not think it would work ... for some reason... it still has not convinced me just because i wonder how it can repell insects... i tought of "sprinkling it on him".. please do not laugh... i am serious.... I am also open for any home made "spray " recipes as i know NONE.... Impossible to keep him inside , we both count the days looking forward to be outside !!! |
I use 1/2 tube of the Advantix for 10lbs and under. You want to be sure to protect against ticks. Ozzy is under 4lbs and he did very well with the half dose. |
I bought the brewers yeast and garlic tablets and have been giving it to him for about 3 weeks now and i have not seen one flea on him knock on wood. there is alot of grass where i live at and this weekend i took him to a dogwalk where theere were tons of dogs and no fleas either. i wanted something natural because i was tired of giving him the medication |
same w/ me I am tired of using the poisoning medication as well... I will also mix any spraying solution home made, but i have no recipe.... |

Hello My choice was between Fronline and Advantix. I have reasearched both and it seems that Advantix soaks into the skin which could cause a reaction. Fronline is only topical so it does not soak into the skin. You can also choose to apply only during the summer months and not do it during Winter. |

Fleas We just moved into a new place and I noticed Chanel has some fleas now. I have tried using flea shampoo and she was so sick of days. I have looked on 1800petmeds and get mixed reviews from customers on advantix and Frontline. Has anyone tried any of the flea meds yet? The meds arent cheap and dont want anything that will get her sick like that again. I hate that she keeps itching so much Let me know if anyone can help. Thanks!! |

I already have Tea Tree Oil in the house, so I LOVE these recipes! |
In my own experience... I feel the same way about commercial tick and flea preventatives. I am so nervous that my little girl will find a way to ingest it and make herself sick. So, I went on a search for a natural alternative and found the greates tick and flea preventative right in my pantry. Almost everyone has it, I can guarantee it! Plain White Vinegar... Give your baby a bath and then rinse down with vinegar. Over the course of the next few days just wipe your baby down with a cloth drenched in vinegar. If you are worried about the smell it goes away after an hour or two. Just be sure to do it in the tub, fleas and ticks will literally be jumping to their death. It makes them almost appear drunk. It's kind of funny actually. I only had to do it three times and they were gone. You can also add a tablespoon of vinegar to four cups of water to be used for drinking. It just adds to the process. :dogprints Trevor |
fleas and ticks med I use KD avantix and Buddy gets mean but if I leave him along for a couple hours and goes back to sweet dog I know. And after 4 days I give him a bath and he is oldself again |
