Biting/Agressive MALE 1 1/2 yrs old help! Hello there everyone! My name is Ben and my mom has an 18 month old yorkie named Buddy. He has been very agressive and biting my father and some others in my family. He lashes out and snaps with no warning and at the same time he can be very sweet. It seems like he picks a favorate when we have a get together at our house and clings on to them. We noticed that he only tries to bite when we approach the person he is protecting. He can be such a sweet puppy and he has been kennel trained. We have tried to dicipline him but we have had no success and he continues to bite people. I would appreciate any help! Ben |
I would take him to a trainer for the aggression. Either that or you can try everytime he snaps, roll him onto his back, hold him down until he calms and gently but firmly hold his little snout shut and say "NO BITING" in a firm voice. Do not let him go until he is COMPLETELY submissive. I hope that helps. It stinks when they are little poops but they are small enough to control when their behavior turns like that. You just need to be firm but gentle. Don't scare him but don't let him get away with it either. |
Is he neutered? |
Some training with a professional might help. |
Welcome to YT. Murfee isn't super aggressive but will snap if I am holding him and someone tries to touch me. I will watch this thread with interest to find suggestions I can try on Murfee. Good luck. |
I would use a water bottle with a sprayer and just spray him each time he does that with a firm "no bitting"; i find that yorkies do not like it when they hear they water being sprayed.... after few tries just leave the bottle in sight for him to see good luck |
Very interesting.... I heard yorkies can get like that in response of something... abuse by kids and mishandling ... wich appears not to be your case... is he well socialized and do you guys take him for walks regularly? I read so many books about them before i got mine and this seemed to be a very important step to keep them well socialized... anyways i am not a specialis, but i will keep coming back to watch this thread... hope more people reply to it ... specially people who have a few like i see many here that have 2 or 3 yorkies... I just want to learn more as well... Meanwhile... Good luck!!!! |
My 7 month old male Yorkie did the same thing until the trainer recommened a small soda can with coins. Shake the can when he gets aggressive. Now all I have to do is say "do you want the can" and he stops and hardly bites at all now. Just the threat of it makes him calm down. It was the best advice I have gotten!! |
