Pee Pads Hi Everyone. This is my first post here. I have a 4 1/2 mo old male yorkie. We just got our baby a few weeks ago. He was trained mostly on pee pads before we got him and we will probably continue to use them when we are not home. He won't pee anywhere else though besides the pads (or carpet on occasion). Any suggestions on getting him to pee outside? He does excellent with pooping outside. Thanks for your time ladies! |

LOL! Cali will be outside playing or I will be throwing her favorite ball and all of a sudden she will run in the house, then trot back out with a satisfied look on her face - she runs into the house to the piddle pad then back out to the yard to play :D |
My Riley will do both. But prefers the pads. And I agree they are kind of a pain in the butt. But when you have to be gone a little longer they are nice. I would take him out often you probably kinda know when he is thinking about it. Say go potty. And when it happens lots of praise and a treat... You would be surprised if they associate go potty with a treat he will catch on fast. Good luck |
When we got Sylvie 4 weeks ago, we had no idea what kind of schedule she had. We both work, but I'm home at lunch every day. We started by letting her roam the back yard (it's fenced in, so no worries), and she always goes both potties when there are dogs in the neighbor's fenced in yards, because she gets so bada$$ barking at them, like she's as big as they are! We now do a combination of walking on a leash and running in the back yard. Since she's 11 lbs, she's big enough for walking on a leash. Oh, and treats, lots and lots of treats. Whoever stated they respond well with treats is on the money! She looks at me like I'm a crazy person if she doesn't get a treat (she doesn't get one if she doesn't do her business)... I digressed a little, but hope it helped. I must also admit this is a breed that is a lot of fun to have around. |
I think if she's already using the pads indoors, that's great! If you know there's a certain time she usually goes (will take some detective work and time recordings hehe), then take her outside before her usual pee. When they gotta go, they gotta go. And the praise like crazy if she does it outside, with a "good girl pee pee". I find with mine, if she's running around a little bit, it'll stimulate her to go pee. ;) But at 4.5 months old, I wouldn't rush it. Make sure she has all her shots etc first before going outside. And don't let her out unless she's on a small harness and leash. My worry would be other animals and eating something bad outside that might get her sick. |
