Sisters playing or fighting? Okay, you don't have to watch the whole thing but just to get the gist of how they "play"....does this seem aggressive to you or is this how sisters play? I really don't know. Luma has never hurt her and she has very good bite inhibition so I know she is just putting her teeth on Rosie gently and not biting down. Rosie is very much an instigator and its clear Luma is going to be the submissive one of the two. At the end you can see Luma trying to go to her water bowl in the kitchen but Rosie goes near it and Luma backs off. Luma is skittish in the kitchen because of the tile. Do you think it could cause Luma to be food aggressive in the future? I feed Rosie in her x pen and Luma isn't allowed in there or she tries to eat Rosie's food. Should I not allow Rosie to drink from lumas bowl? |
I don't see aggression between the two.....it seems that Rosie is just being a puppy! I can see Luma is the submissive one who puts herself in "timeout" to give herself a break from Rosie. My two play like this, but Teeka gets a little rough sometimes and I have to say something to settle her down. Tatiana is quiet a bit smaller than her. There are times that Tatiana get the better of her! |
I'm no expert, but it looks like they're playing to me. Poor Luna...Rosie reminds me of Jasper...none stop action. :D |
Looks like play to me. Teddy gets a little rough and irritates Max, so I have to tell them to settle down like Deb does with her girls. Make sure Luma has a place to escape Rosie when she wants. They don't do this when their alone. I videotaped them when I had to leave them a few times. They just hung out quietly and watched the door together. Teddy pushes Max away from bowls, the water bowl and even Max's food bowl. It has not caused Max to be food aggressive at all. I'm surprised he lets Teddy do this. The only thing that I believe would cause a real fight between my boys is a chew. I hold their chews for other reasons, so it isn't a problem. |
Looks like play to me also. I enjoyed watching them. |
Play for sure! |
Your video looks just like my Hansel (mini Schnauzer) and Princess Sophie (yorkie puppy) play. It's like this most of the day except when they are both sleeping. LOL |
It does look like play but Luma is probably still deferring to Rosie's puppyhood as older pack dogs tend to do that until the little one needs to be taught a lesson. It could always stay this way with Rosie calling the shots or totally change once Rosie is older and Luma feels she needs to re-assert herself as leader. I would let them drink from each other's bowls as long as it doesn't cause discord as dogs seem to delight in sneaking food and water from the other's bowls and stealing toys and chewies. Just watch for resource guarding and step in to stop that if one or the other of them gets too mean about it. Let them know their boundaries and that you are there to enforce a certain behavior standard if either one starts harming the other one or one begins to get skittish, regresses into early shyness or avoidance. Those two girls are just adorable and I'll have to say I envy you having these two precious little Yorkies. It must be so much fun and a laugh a minute most days. Work training each in obedience separately and you will have two well-behaved little ladies - most of the time! haha - no dog is 100% well-behaved, thank goodness. Nobody wants a robot for a best friend! :) |
Looks like play to me. |
It definitely looks like play to me. In the end, it looked like Luma was done but Rosie wasn't. When you notice this, I would just let Luma have some space... Whether it is on your lap where Rosie can't reach her or if you put Rosie in her expen. Puppies can be exhausting and Luma may not want to play as much as she wants to :) |
Playing!! :) |
They are playing, so cute! I'm noticing that Luma is not wagging her tail, which can mean that she's displaying her dominance over Rosie...showing her who's the boss. Mimi does the playful dog pose w/her butt up in the air & her tail is wagging a mile a min & barking @ the same time. She has a very submissive personality, whereas Momo is the dominant one. He doesn't wag his tail @ her, but they'll still chase ea/other & play. |
Cute video! I vote playing. They stop in between... fighting dogs don't stop, even if you physically separate them for a minute, thay'll go right back at it. It's good that Rosie respects Luma's crate, gives her a place to hide from the puppy madness! |

Luma is usually not allowed in there bc I freefeed Rosie and luma will sneak food. If lum needs to escape she just lays on the couch or bed. Rosie can't get up there. |
Neither one seems to be overwhelmed or feel bullied. They both look equally playful. Little balls of fire! haha |
