And her vets confered with the neuro at Auburn who advised continuing the steroid treatment, bc if testing him for Cerebral Hyperplasia is positive, there is nothing that can be done anyway, in their professional opinions. It would be nice if all vets were the best, and all owners were the best... better yet all dogs were well bred and never got sick from weak immune systems, etc.... we do the best we can. |
Amen!!!!! That is so true, we do the best we can. Maybe the poor baby will respond and get better. It could be something really simple. I surely hope so. |
It would also be nice if all humans were bred properly and didn't get sick from their their immune systems. --Kelly (diagnosed with systematic lupus erythematosus 2012) |

I have said what I feel is best and no reason for me to continue this conversation with you. I am here merely as a voice for that puppy AND because the OP DID ask for HELP. :) It is NOT like I don't get it...I recently had to come up with over $17,000 for vetting in one month. If anyone thinks that came out of a fluid bank account or a tree in my backyard, think again. Now, do I think that everyone can manage as I was able to do even though it put me in serious debt? No! I am just saying that we should do what we can...I personally would not keep a dog and let it suffer just because I could not get the money to help it. Thankfully, I did not have to make a decision to surrender one of them, but I would if I had to. I simply don't believe in keeping a dog in my home and not providing what I feel is necessary. I have said enough because she is going to do whatever she is going to do...out of my control. Prayers for Colby. |

Thanks KJC, actually I wasn't looking for sympathy. The point I was trying to make is that illness and disease are part of the circle of life. You can never protect against everything, not with your dogs not with yourself. Parts of life are just in Gods hands. I will pray for this poor little dog. |
For anybody who does not think I am doing everything in my power for Colby, I would just like to tell you I am doing everything possible for him. I even got a third vet involved today with his care. They have all said the same thing. If they were me they would see how the steroids do before rushing to spend what could be a substantial amount of money spent on testing just to find out what I have already been told. They also said they agree with the diagnosis and even if I pay for the MRI and get a definitive diagnosis there is nothing they can do, it is untreatable. They said that I was doing the right thing by waiting to see how he does on the steroids. Medical care is of the utmost important in my house, but so is listening to the doctors. If I could not afford a test for my daughter, but was treating her the best way I knew how and listening to the doctors would you tell me to get rid of her too? I am not a confrontational person, and I would usually not say anything, and I know you may mean well, but making me sound like I do not care about him and I am just watching him suffer could not be further from the truth. These puppies are not just dogs to us they are a part of the family, and yes me and my husband both have gone without to take care of our kids and our pups first. So please don't judge what you do not know. |

You are doing the right things! I would absolutely do the very same thing. I would not be willing to give mine away just because there is a problem. You are doing all that you can and we all know that ! You are doing absolutely all the right things. No one should judge until they walk in that person's shoes. I do hope your baby gets better with the steroids. Has there been any improvement at all? |

That says soooo much! WooHoo!:D |
I know some people may not agree with me, but I have been doing research day in and day out and have discovered they can have a reaction just like the one he had to vaccinations. They gave him all of his on the same day. I can not narrow down which one did it, but what I have read if they improve with steroids and they have had their vaccines close enough to when the episode occurred then it is highly possible that is the reason. I spoke the breeder and she said after talking to her vet and thinking back he did not start having the walking problems when she had him until she started vaccinations and he had them right before we got him, and it took me about a month of having him for him to start walking good finally. I am really wondering if I have found my answer. |
In about two weeks you'll know. I'd video him walking and email it to your vets. One thing though, it does rule out the Cerebral Hyperplasia. |

Yay! Hope every day gets better for all of you. Your a dedicated yorkie mom. Your pup is lucky to have you! :) |
So glad to hear Colby is doing better:D |
That just makes me sad, I hope he gets better! |
So glad that he is getting better and playing now. That is AWESOME news! It really sounds like he had some sort of reaction! |
Did the Vet check his ears? Poor baby looks like he may be dizzy. Also, what kind of flea meds and/or shampoo are you using on him? He reminds me of how my cat walked when I accidently put dog flea meds on her. I'm not a vet but it sort of looks like some kind of reaction to a chemical. Worth checking into... |
