2. Week old baby I need help I have a baby that turned 2 weeks old today. His mom had a c-section but has been nursing him. My problem is I think he came early, because he does not nurse good, he seems slow, so I have been helping by feeding goat milk with a few drops of karo. He started out at 3.3 oz & he is only 4.0 oz as of today. And as of today I don't think Gracie is helping him poop or pee very well. So my question,s are how do I get him to gain weight ? & keep it. And I tried to help him poop & he did a little but not much & did not pee at all. I did the warm cotton ball as well. I know Gracie has milk because I have a 3 week old orphan girl & she is nursing on Gracie. & she is doing great !!! Thank you for any help you can give me. |

Please try and make sure you post questions in the correct section. This is the Yorkie Video section and not very many people will look here. |
What does your vet say to do with this baby under the circumstances? I would sure utilize that resource to be sure that baby is thriving, developing and pooping normally, etc. |
Oh no! You lost a momma just three weeks ago, and have another momma that have to have a c-section 2 weeks ago, with a pup that isn't doing too well? You and your pups have really been through the wringer. Hugs. I am not a breeder, so I have no advice, I just hope someone experienced can give you some good advice to try and salvage what you can of your situation. Situations like this are largely why I would never want to be a breeder, it would devastate me. Prayers for you and your pups. |
Puppy Some puppies don't gain as fast as others. Also you may need to dropper feed him more often. Sometimes adding vitamins to the formula will also help. What kind of formula are you using? Keep working with him on pooping and peeing too unless you can see that Mom is licking him. Some of them just need a little extra work. Good Luck |

You have to make certain that baby is in an ambient temp of 88*- 92* environment...NO DRAFTS....if he is not kept warm enough, he will not thrive, because his system shuts down and food is not processed. I have posted a formula on here many times that delivers 14-16 cal/cc of formula....and you have to give 1cc/oz of body weight....this baby needs to be fed around the clock, at least every 3 hours. (1 can Just Born with Colostrum, 4 oz Pedialyte, 1 raw egg yolk, 1 cup whole Live Culture Yogurt, 3 tbsp. Dr.Millers Pet Nutra Drops (can use baby vitamins, will also need to add Karo syrup ~ 2 tbsp~) I have pulled pups that have been/are born early, orphaned, or just need help to get started. Most babies LOVE the taste of this formula....and will take it from a bottle if they are well enough....otherwise, tube feed the baby. Get instructions from your vet on how to tube feed. It is quick and easy and you can exactly monitor how much you are getting into the baby. |

Well thats good to hear.... I was getting worried. Im expecting pups from Ruby in early Feb and I dare not think of what could go wrong. Sometimes reading these threads on here just scare the heck outta me. I'm so thankful for such a great community of caring individuals who are always willing to help. |
