Getting New Yorkie Tomorrow! Need Your Help! Hi, everyone! I lost my teacup yorkie, Brandi, after 15 years in May. Devistated. Miss her every day. Well, decided it was time to get a new one and tomorrow is the day! I am getting him from a no kill shelter. Its a two hour trip each way but worth it. One quick question, if I might. This yorkie will be a 4 year old small male. I was always used to a female yorkie. Any differences in potty training? I have heard that males tend to go more than females. Any tips or suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks! |
potty training with males i think is tougher.... jmo I would go online or search hon here and by some belly bands. They go around the belly and private area. ( they attach with velcro.):D Be consistant in taking them out and tons of patience! :D :DHugs to you and welcome to Yorkietalk!! Please post pics of new baby tomorrow! |
If he's neutered and you crate train him, limiting his access around the house until fully potty trained, he should do fine. My Tibbe was neutered and has never ever marked in this house in 4 1/2 years. My sister's had 3 neutered males in the last 20 years and none of hers mark her house. |

Congrats...i hope you post updates and pictures of the little man as soon as he make himself comfortable at home. Hope the journey there and back was a smooth one. |
You have already received great advice so I just wanted to say Congrats! Looking forward to pics:) |
Congratulations, I hope you keep posting the good and bad here. Its a bit of a challenge to bring a somewhat older pup home and I very much commend you for doing so. Remember the first few days as a new family will ultimately be his most formidable and setting guidelines and rules, very gently will put you much further ahead. Sit down and write a planned routine/schedule for those first few days, include lots of cuddling time and rewards! This will serve both of you better in the long run. Again congrats and make sure to keep us posted and hopefully this little guy will come potty trained!!!! I'm so happy for him and you!:) |
Congratulations on your new addition :D Thank you for saving this baby. As long as you are consistent, there shouldn't be any difference between this little boy and your female in regards to potty training. |
Potty training?? Consistance! Persistance! Patience! Congratulations on your new "baby" boy!!! I simply adore those little boys! They will wrap you completely around their little paw!!! You are in for another "love of your life" with this precious little soul! Thank you for including him in your world, in your family, in your heart! |
