Charlie is so cute! He was definitely on a mission! Looks like he might have needed a bath afterwards! Is that a pool behind him? They make good bathtubs! :D He reminds me of Elmer Fudd in the Bugs Bunny cartoons when he said, "Be vewy, vewy quiet, I'm hunting for wabbits!" :sidesplt:

Yes its a pool behind him. We just put it up a few weeks back. That's why the grass is overgrown and it looks a mess. lol Kids come over and play pretty hard getting water everywhere and we haven't cut the grass since we put the pool up. And yes, i'm explaining myself. haha Every time I watch that video I think about how the grass needs trimmed. haha! Everything stands out more in videos for some reason. :D

I don't mind him having fun and being a dog sometimes. I stop him from digging most of the time because I really don't want to deal with holes all over the back yard, but I just let him have at it this time. I wish the video picked up the funny noises he makes when his face is buried in the dirt. He's defiantly thinks he found something really cool.

We have a mini schnauzer as well as our new baby, Kipper (3 1/2 mo old Yorkie) who would dig like crazy and one day he uncovered a rat's nest with about 20 babies! He killed them all. I suppose that it might be possible that whatever may be in that hole could bite or otherwise harm your little fellow, but our dog was never hurt because he was just too fast. I would rather not take that chance, if I knew what could be down there. To this day, if we tell Buddy (the schnauzer) to "get the rat!" he will usually find them and kill them without hesitation. We were pretty scared when we brought home Kipper because he was so tiny, we were afraid that Buddy would think he was a rat, too! We were careful to not even say the word and Buddy and Kipper play sweetly together, even though Buddy is 8 years old and Kipper is only 3 1/2 months old. We never leave them alone, however. I wouldn't want Buddy to get too rough and end up hurting Kipper and I don't want Kipper to be allowed to annoy Buddy unreasonably.

I bet it is gophers he's after. I know they live in our backyard because I see gopher holes here and there. He doesn't just have one in particular spot, but when he decides he found a spot he's determined to get it.

He has "gone to ground"!!! And having a blast! Remembering how senitive a dogs sense of smell is, somebody could have thrown grease from a deep fat fryer out there 40 years ago, or maybe there was something in the fill dirt they brought in when the house was built all those years ago, and he smells that......or someone/something peed there....he has caught the scent and he is going after it!!
