I have tried almost everything to stop this behavior. I've tried ignoring Toby and I've tried paying attention to him when I get home. We are pretty much on a "routine" during the week and as soon as I walk in the door I get their dinner ready. That's the only way to not have to deal with this behavior. The weekends are a different story because I come and go at different times. It doesn't matter what I do when I walk in the door, this is what I get. Any suggestions? Normally Toby is not a barker but this is getting annoying. The only funny part about it is when you watch him bark it looks like he's missing his bottom front teeth. LOL

Is he expecting to be fed every time you come home? Sounds like he's trying to remind you that you forgot to feed him. Maybe get him to sit and give him a small treat AFTER he's quiet for a few seconds?

LOL!!! It's super cute....but I can see how annoying it might get after awhile...

I have used a spray bottle on my little barker (spritzed her a little water while I said NO) and it made a world of difference...now all I have to do is SHOW it to her...and I get immediate silence! lol :D Then once he's quiet...you can always give him a treat...he'll catch on......eventually.....mommy likes it BETTER when I'm quiet...:)

He's just excited to see you. He's just a bit high strung. I have one like that, but while she's at her excited barking, she will keep bumping her nose on my leg. One time I felt her little teeth on my leg, then I had to really get on to her. I don't know how you can break that type of behavior. Wish I did know.

Also are you able to take them out for a walk....he's probably bored....and has a lot of nervous energy....if you can drain some of that energy on a walk...that might help too. jmo:)

My Lexi does this same thing I am pretty much with her all the time and she just has to yell at me for going out without her. She is not a barker either just has lots to say when i get home. The other ones do not do it... He just loves you and telling you about his day...

hahah He's sooo cute!! He is just updating you on all the things that you missed out while you were gone. This makes me glad that my babies don't bark. Carmel will act like he's on a trampoline when my bf comes home for weekends. He gets SO excited that he will unintentionally bite him too!

Thanks everyone for your feedback. No, he isn't needing fed when I get home because I don't leave at the same time on the weekends. He does have some nervous energy but we can't go for walks right now as the sidewalks have been a solid sheet of ice. Toby does better on the ice than I do! He's actually a pretty laid back dog except for times like this.

Toby will take his nose and bump my leg as well. He can be quite demanding when he doesn't get his way.

As for needing hugs and kisses, I'm not sure there is any other dog that gets as much lovin' as he does. LOL

I have used the Dog Repeller and it does work but I never have it by my side all the time. And I only like to use it outside where there is quite a bit of distance between us.

I did get one suggestion of trying coins in a can and I completely forgot about spritzing him with water.

So I will get a small spray bottle full of water and leave it in each room. I'm sure it won't take long for him to catch on. He's a pretty smart little guy and he knows he has me wrapped around his little paws!
