How sweet! Olive has a tail too and I love it! |
Sorry to hear about Rebel... Please don't missunderstand about the tail docking. We were naive at first and thought it was something that had to be done, maybe for health reasons. Our Vet did not recommend nor say they would do it - actually the opposite. The Vet is the one who informed us that it was not necessary and would not do it. Wanted to clear this up since my first post made it sound like the Vet gave us a choice - they didn't. |
Cool Yorkie! Love the tail, our Yorkie also has its tail. Here in Norway tail docking has been forbidden since 1988. |
I'm not sure why it's still done in the US, I guess that's another thread. I personally can't understand the concept - I think the tails are beautiful and so expressive. |
Hi Hi there. Your Yorkie is tooooo cute. We also have a Yorkie with a full tail. |
It seems to be mostly a US thing to dock their tails. I get a lot of looks and questions when people see his tail. |
They are still "docking and cropping" in Canada as well. I would love to see us adopt the European rules here. There is no need to dock our little Yorkies. They mostly live like little Kings and Queens. The European show Yorkies are just stunning. Their lovely plumes just add to the Yorkie Tude. |
"Yorkie Tude" - excellent way to describe it! It is much more effective way to show their attitude when you see the tail raised with about 2" to 3" of hair swinging back and forth as they strut! |
Love the full tail! Trixie has her full tail also and I am so grateful to her breeder for leaving her in her natural state!!! :animal-pa |

There are a couple of theories out there but one is before the turn of the century owners were taxed on the length of their dogs...so they removed the tail...another is it was one way to pull the dog out of holes as they were ratters and there could be even more theories but I quarantee it wasn't because they knocked things off of tables:) PS. I love long tails |
Beautiful tail! And I just love watching Yorkies do the spin! |
I'm personally not a fan of docking any dog's tail. They just look so much cuter with it waving in excitement. I would love to see the AKC revise all their standards to reflect the lack of need for tail docking. I understand the initial reason behind it; rats grab on to anything long and defenseless so the tails were docked to prevent injury to the dogs doing their job. But since we don't use them that way any more, why should we still be doing it? Can you imagine the uproar if the Miss America Pagent started requiring that all their contestants lob off one boob? |
I'm not sure I want to comment on the tail = boob analogy... |
