Does your Yorkie do this? Don't be alarmed: Reverse Sneezing (Pharyngeal Gag Reflex) - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company! I thought I'd post a vid of Momo reverse sneezing. I know some folks are bewildered & wondering why their baby is makin such strange sounds...I sure did. When this happens, I cover his nose or rub his throat gently so he'll swallow & he'll stop. He also stops on his own, but if I'm there, I want to help him.:p It can be caused by hair, lint, dust tickling the throat too. He also does this when eating & drinking sometimes. A collapsed trachea is different whereas rubbing the throat will cause the attack/honking sound. |
Aww. Your babies are SO CUTE. I'm sorry about the reverse sneezing. But I absolutely ADORE how you have the hair on your babies. I wish I could get mine to look that gorgeous. She just kind of all over the place right now with the hair. I have to get her trimmed up. I thought mine had some condition such as this with the reverse sneezing, but we are starting to think she just doesn't chew her food enough she more inhales it. But she doesn't eat fast or a large amount. |
Thank You for the compliments on my babies.:D Does she primarily make sounds after she eats? How long does it last? Princess & Turbo devour their food. They make sounds like they're gagging, it only lasts couple of seconds. I bought a slow feeder for them, but they won't go near it. So I put a little condiment cup in the middle of their bowl to slow them down. It helps some, but they eat like they're in a race. Oh yeah, they don't chew most of their kibble either. |

Do you do your babies hair or do you have a groomer do it? I'm soo obsessing. I keep watching the video over and over to get good looks at their hair. LOL |
Your little furbabies are so adorable!! :D Missy does the reverse sneezing/honking sometimes when she's been running for a while or she get super excited. She sounds like a little goose! |

Hehee, I'm a groomer, so I do their hair. Kinda like having a mom for a hair stylist.:D Mimi's hair is all messed up in the vid. She got into some gum, so I had to chop off part of her bangs. Quote:

Thanks Meagan!:p:D |
Maggie has done this pretty much the whole time she's been with us. She's gets soooo excited and starts doing this. The vet tech told us to hold her nose and push her head down. This opens the air ways of their throat and the noise will stop immediately. This helps tremendously! |
Thaks for that info Bo! Then Adi-and-Missy doesn't have to worry if it's CT or not...;) |

I've taken her to the vet twice in the last month. She said it's normal for this breed and when it happens to just have MIssy relax until it passes. :) |
Aww I think it's Mimi that has the exact same color hair as my girl. Shes blonde/blue (altho I don't know why they call them 'blue' when its grey). I want to learn to do their hair. I'm just going to start practicing on my own, I mean she can't turn out any worse than what she looks like now. Haha. Do you have any suggestions what I could do to her body hair? It's not thick and gorgeous like your mimis, though it is the same color and looks same texture. But her hair is thinning on her back and Im not sure if a longer look would make it look bad or not. I think it looks 'raggy' as shorter on her back as it is now, though.. |
My Zada does the "honking" noise when she's excited and if she does it too long, she then wheezes, sounding like someone with asthma. She had a really bad bout of wheezing after a lot of honking, that lasted all night so I took her to the Vet. She took x-ray of her chest and found some inflammation and put her on clavamox. She goes back tomorrow for an x-ray on her throat. We aren't sure what's causing all this yet, but it's scary. |

I think coat their health & diet has alot to do w/the condition of the coat. What are you feeding Lolli? She's adopted, right? I don't know too much about her past, but that can have alot to do w/the condition of her coat now (maybe?). With the proper food that contains Omegas 3 & 6, & the daily allowance of vitamins & minerals, the hair will greatly improve. Quote:

Anyway, so the previous owner was a vet tech but she didn't really act like one. She was feeding her Purina One puppy food (as I guess most of the other dogs were puppies since she was a breeder). I bought her Purina Natural (or something to this effect I forget exactly) but I didn't know about there being 'bad' quality food for dogs until recently so I haven't figured what brand I should switch her to that is a 'safe' brand of food. I need something I can purchase from a store as ordering online + shipping gets pricey and money is tight since a recent family death took a lot of money. Do you have any suggestions on food that I might be able to find in a pet store and not have to order online? I've had her about 3 weeks or something like that. She doesn't itch or seem to have a thyroid issue (I tried to feel on her thyroids and didn't feel, the vet I spoke to was a non-profit so did not offer services to check such things but told me how I could feel her thyroids). We haven't had her to the vet yet as I said a death in the family has taken a lot of time and money. So we should be getting her in in a week or 2. So I'm not sure why she has thinning hair. Its really thin just on her back to just above her rump, but the skin under looks soft and normal not red or bumpy or anything like that |
I see. You're an angel for taking her! She's so lucky to have you. Many mommies lose alot of hair. Since Lolli was a breeding bitch, IDK know if her hair will ever be normal. It might take a long time, but w/proper diet & exercise, she'll be radiant!;) Feeding a premium kibble is the next best thing. It's too bad about her hair. She looks so silly when I bathe her it's like you can REALLY SEE where the hair is thin or non existent. Like a chinese crested or something is what it looks like when she's wet! When she is dry it's hard to tell where the thinning is unless you looked close, or sat another yorkie nearby for comparison on the thickness of hair. It's mostly just in that area. Her legs, tail and head/ears seem to be full and normal. I'm even more sad to know that this could be caused from having litters of puppies. The previous owner had her for over a year only and had adopted her from somewhere/someone else and she did not have any history to give me previous to her adopting her so it's hard to know how many litters shes had her whole 7 years of life. :( |
Awww, poor Lollie. I hope her hair loss isn't bc of other issues, but maybe it's best to check w/her vet. Do you have a Petsmart or Petco near by? I know they carry Natural Balance, bc that's what I feed mine. Maybe you can call them & ask, save a trip just incase they don't carry it. |

video Thanks for the video of the reverse sneeze. Belle does this and in my mind I know what it is but there's always that little bit of doubt and concern in the back of your mind. My husband just about panics when she does this. I feel much better knowing what it does sound like. Belle sure could use a good groomer. She had one and 1/2 sessions and they did not do what I wanted. She wears a sweater during the chilly days, my husband says it's because mommy is cold! She rolls on the floor on her back and boy can she make mats. Being a Morkie she has a mic of hair but it's fine. I use to worry cause it was thin but all of a sudden it's like she's become a sheep dog. I brush her everyday with a CC woodpin brush and it works great. This time I was gone for a couple days and she ended up one big mat all the way to her skin. I just took the trimmer and buzzed her body. Wasn't going to put her through combing. I know it will grow, it's just funny seeing her "nakie" as I call it and she thinks it's funny. |
