Chronic Knee Problems We have a 16 month old Yorkie name Bella. Now Bella has bad knees in her back legs and the knees keep popping in and out. Now the Vet said the only solution is for her to have an operation to correct this to the tune of over $1000 plus. My question is has anyone had this problem and did you all do anything about it. Hers pops in and out. Someone told us that there Vet said if she isn't walking around holding up one of her hind legs most of the time it was a waste of money to have the operation. Said it is a chronic condition that a lot of Yorkies have. Anyone that has anything to say would be nice. |
Welcome!! My Cali has bad knees, a grade 4 Luxataing Patella. Many people on here have had the surgery done successfully. With Cali we are taking a wait and see approach since she is not botherd by it. But Cali has other conditons that my vet would rather not but her under unless we have too. Hopefully others will post their experiences. |
How did you know she had it? Sometimes Mimi has her right back leg make a sound when she moves sometimes but its only when I move it. When she moves it it wont make a sound. Do you think this is a sign? But she runs around like a crazy girl. The sound that it makes when I move it is like really silent but like a little pop noise. Should I be worried? |
tony--from reading uk. I am very sorry to read about Bella, we had the same trouble with sally when she was 2yrs old, a visit to the vet soon put things ok, i am not sure of all the correct terms, they made the knee socket a fraction deeper , and put pins in the knee joints to help them to stay in place. she is now 9yrs old and playfull as ever , i think the worst part was not letting her eat before the "opp". and after with her legs in a cast, we stayed up for two nights---no sleep. the total cost was around £800. glad we had her insured, it would be very silly of me to say ,do not worry, but i hope you will be able consult the vet. and can sort the trouble out for the dear little soul---my kind regards ------tony. |
