Reaction to 3 yr rabies shot Had my little Lexie at the vet and he convinced me to give the 3 yr shot. Bad mistake, she had a horrible reaction. Anyone have the same experience? Also she has a little bump the vet says he may need to remove. I'm afraid of putting her under for it. Anyone with some experience?:animal-pa |

it may take a month or more for the bump to go away - do Not put her under and have it removed - that is unecessary and the vet is just going to make big bucks and do more harm than good. it will go away in time This reaction and bump are quite common in our little dogs - both from 1 yr and 3 yr vaccines and thank goodness you had the 3 yr so now she doesn't go thru this again soon - plus let me close by saying that most of the ones that have a reaction the first time never have that reaction again - seems therir bodies get a better immunity to it . Hope this helps |

Baxter has a knot from his shot that is also hairless. The vet gave me a paper on it. Evidently it is common in small dogs. He said no need to remove it. I'd get a second opinion. |
I thank God for my wonderful vet! At least he had sense enough to NOT GIVE THE FULL DOSE to my baby for her first rabies shot! She had a really bad reaction from it too, thought she was gonna die! If he had given her the FULL dose she probably wouldnt have lived! He put on her chart to NEVER give vaccines again without pre-medicating first! He only gives a little of the rabies vac to our little babies, just enough to be able to say it was given( so she is legal) He says they are sooo small they dont need a full dose to be effective. |
Whay size are your little guys I was wondering how much your doggies way? My Izzy is about 8.5 lbs and she is up for her shots next week and I hate the thought of giving her all that stuff. Izzy is 16 months and this will be her second time for shots, I have heard so many different opinions on shots. I will take all the info I can get. Kathy Adams Dri |

why is this discussion under videos? |
Yes! I had the same problems with my Ritzy. I took her for her Rabies and booster shots - that night she had the worst reaction! She threw up and was unsteady on her feet. I was so scared ( I lost my first Yorkie pup! ) I took her to the animal ER. $500 and a day later, she was back to normal. Ritzy also had a bump develop on her back - almost directly on her spine. Over two weeks, the bump became much larger and she was always biting andl licking it. Vet told me it was most likely a histiocytoma (a normal bump) that would go away with some medicated ointment. But if it didnt get better wtihin another week, it would need to removed for biopsy. Luckily it went away, and her hair is slowly growing back!! Good luck with your baby! Hope this helped. After I found YT, I didnt feel so alone anymore. =D |

Don't worry, that lump will eventually go away. May take months and up to a year. The reason it caused a lump was because it was given in the wrong spot/muscle. |
