Prayers Hi im so sorry im praying god bless the angels are with you |
Sorry I haven't answered back in so long but it has been so hard taking care of Theo since he came home from the hospital Tuesday night. He has to take 5 different meds 2-3 X's a day and some can't be taken before others then there is the new Hill's Science Diet K/D because they were out of L/D ...and my vet doesn't totally agree with the hospitals findings so I am really confused and concerned. But my vet agree's he needs his blood tested again on Friday to see if he is still enemic then in a month another bile acid test to check his liver funtions. So till then we are babying him and trying to get use to this routine. Before this all happen they ate a dry mix of Halo & Nutro Max dry puppy food. Then they got nutro cal in the morning and wen we all got home from work. A morning snack of an organic peanut butter small biscuit from Whole Foods and in the evening another natural puppy biscuit from Petco I think it was by Old Mother Hubbards. But the week that he got sick I gave him a small serving of plain cooked ground beef. the night before he got sick he had a little turkey, mash potatoes & corn along with his little brother. Everything was home made and the only spice that was added ws a garlic clove that was cooked under the skin of the turkey and a little salt in the mash potatoes. But like I said before both puppies torn wallpaper down a few times and ate it a week prior to this and he also had the purple fuzz from his hartz tennis ball toy he got for Christmas in his throw up the morning this all began. The only thing I can say might help all yorkie owners to know is that liver problems happen quite often in this breed and if I could do it all over again I would not give them high protein diets. Buying the best foods isn't always good or too much of a good thing can be very bad. But until we are certain which we may never be it is hard to pinpoint this whole thing. It could be that by eating all the wallpaper, fuzz oh yeah and his wee wee pads that maybe his insides were irritated which caused the internal bleeding first then his liver which was probably over worked from all those toxins couldn't handle the extra protein he got days prior to getting sick since we did see black stool several times earlier that week. If and when i find anything new out I will let you all know and as always thank you for your continued prayers. |

Day 6 of meds...4 more to go..then just liver meds Yes high protien diets and wallpaper both seem to be really bad for Yorkies... But here is my dilemia for Wed. when we all go back to work for the first time and they are alone for 11 hours. If I keep them in the kitchen which they have never be restricted to they will probably eat the wee wee pad since they have eaten that before. If I let then have the kitchen and family room as they always did they may eat the wallpaper and the wee wee pads. So I am thinking perhaps they wont be so mad if they have their usual space and with a little luck they wont eat anything that is bad for them. The low protien diet stays in place for life and with Gods blessing no one will get sick again. You never know how deep your love is for these little guys until something happens to them. Once his little brother turns 1 it will be easier on the food side since he wont need puppy food any longer. :animal36 |

Garlic fed directly in large raw quantities can cause tummy upset, but in all my findings it is not toxic unless the dog eats an entire bulb everyday for awhile. Garlic and onions are related but the element in onions that is toxic is so little in garlic that it won't affect the dog. Garlic fed to a dog can help with fleas and worms and helps support their immune system. It was not the one clove of garlic not fed directly to the dog that hurt your pup. I do worry about Nutro Max food though. I was feeding my boys that for about a year before I found out how terrible it is for them. I have them on Taste of the Wild dog food now and its much healthier for them. My fletcher was sooo skinny on Nutromax, but he has filled out on Taste of the Wild. They seem healthier, more active and have gone from completely not potty trained to well behaved little boys. I'd get your other baby off NutroMax and feed him something better for him. I recommend Taste of the Wild, but alot of others here can give you some other really good foods also. I am soooo glad to hear that your baby is doing better and came home. I hope and pray that his tests all come back normal with his next visit. Keep us posted. :) |
Why is Nutromax bad? I feed my puppy Solid Gold dry and either Wellness or Pet Promise wet, are those any bad? I hear high protein diet is bad but all the dog food are high protein no? What can I do? |
Nutro Max Actually they were both on Halo for a few months prior tho this happening and I wasn't certain if he had eaten any cooked garlic since I only put 2 cloves under the skin and their meat came from deeper in the breast...so if they got any it was just the flavor or a tiny speckle. As time goes by I am thinking it was a combination of eating too much wallpaper, wee wee pads, stuffing, rug threads, toy fibers, pillow fibers and what ever else they got into when we were working and had no clue of. But there was never a huge amount of evidence in his stool at one time. I truly don't think the vets at the hospital or my vet is certain what it is either. So basically the poor lil guy has to go tonight and get poked once again to test his blood and see if he is still anemic (I am not looking forward to car ride since he panics the minute we take him near the door to leave and I am sure he will be shaking like a leaf when he sees he is going to the vets) We are going to see if he can come off some of the meds and ask what other dog food can he have that doesn't cost 31.00 for 12 cans. It makes me wonder if they prescribe this food since only they can sell it and make money. Then at the end of the month they will do the liver function test again...I am also searching the web for information on Liver problems and specialist in the area. Thank God he is running around once again although a little snippy but what the heck he was poked with needles for 5 days and held down and shaved not to mention a scope being stuck down his throat which could of caused the internal bleeding. So he has every right to be a little touchy. We will just keep showering him with love and hopefully he will get back to his lil ole self... |
I'm so glad he's doing better, and can get over it. I pray that God will give you strength to get through this rough time. |
WOW! Have you ever been through a lot! I'm soooo glad to hear your baby is doing better. |
Theo's Vet Visit last Friday! We took our lil boy to the vet Friday for his blood work and his blood count went all the way up to 35 from 19 when he left the hospital 2 weeks ago. So we feel real good that the blood transfusion worked... yeaaaaa... He came off one of the 2 of the six meds and our vet says he is progressing well... his gut feeling is still that it isn't a liver problem and this all came about from something he ate...we will know more in a month when he has the second bile acid test done....Thank you for all your prayers and with Gods blessing he will be good as new soon... |
