Alexandria, VA - Vet and Groomer We're in the process of trying to find our special furbaby. We were hoping to get some ideas for good vets and groomers in the Fort Belvoir / Alexandria / Springfield / Woodbridge areas. Any info y'all might have good and bad would be most helpful. Thanks in advance! Ivy |
A good groomer in Woodbridge is Groomingdale's Pet Salon on Rt. 1. They charge $45.00 for complete grooming. Woodbridge Animal Hospital is open 24 hours a day, but is a little pricey. I've gone there for years, and I trust them. Good luck on your search! |
I just checked out the Vet's site. I like how they have it set up and even list common charges for things. They seem to have a broad team of vets with specialties and interests. Thanks for mentioning them! I tried to find a site for the groomer, but came up with zilch. Do you know if they have a website? Thanks! Ivy |

I'm in the Alexandria area and I use Annandale Animal Hospital and as a groomer I use Canine Carousel. I'm close to 495 (off of van dorn) so going to Annandale isn't that big of a deal for me and Canine Carousel is in the Annandale area also! |
I'll check these out too. If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been with the vet and using the groomer? It appears the vet has been in the area a very long time. That's a good sign. :) I was impressed with the amount of training the groomer has. Looks like the originial owner had two locations, but now only runs the Herndon shop. Thanks for the info! :) Ivy |

With the groomer, it's a little different. I went to the one in Annandale and the woman there is really nice. I got the recommendation from a really good friend of mine that owns a maltese and they love going there. I have yet to try the one in Herndon, but I think that's where I might be going from now on. The shop in Annandale seems just a tad run-down-ish. I like the look of the Herndon one. |
Live close by I live close by....the van dorn area. I am picking up my new baby girl tomorrow! I am really nervous...but excited at the same time. Maybe we can get together and let them play. |
I live in alexandria. I take my Kobe right to the Banfield Vet Center at PetsMart. He's been going there since 3 mo. and he's 7 yrs now. Never had any problems and he is on the care plan. Groomers: sometimes I trim him myself, or take him to Petsmart. I also took him to a woman on Rte 1 before and she did an excellent job. I usually get him a Schnauzer cut, but am letting him grow out for the winter. |
Check out Old Towne Pet Resort in Springfield, VA off Alban Road. Stay away from PetSmart's and Petco's for grooming purposes; they don't really that good of a job. |

My friend that owns a maltese knew someone that worked there and she said that many employees mistreated the dogs and really didn't care about the pets in general. She told me to stay away from that place. I actually take Truffles to petsmart to get him groomed (short trimmings) while I go to Canine Carousel in Herndon for the major groomings (major cuts and such). I like petsmart b/c they're easy to work with and Truffles always ends up looking handsome. They're fairly priced as well. I go to Canine Carousel when truffles' hair is long and I want a major cut and such. I'm pleased with petsmart.:D http://www.caninecarousel.com/ |
WOW...I didn't know that. Conditions seemed better when I was there and I was referred by a friend. I think with the PetSmart chains it's hit or miss sometimes. |

I need to board Brody for about 6 days. I was seriously considering the Old Towne Pet Resort someone suggested. The place looks soooo much better than the facility that our vet offers. How long ago did your friend work there? Are there any other suggestions for boarding facilities in the area? What should I be looking for in a good facility? Our vet offers the service to their patients. The kennels for small dogs are little cement runs stacked on top of each other 2 high and 2 deep. When they aren't too booked, they open the dividers to let the dogs have access to both runs. It's so dark and crowded in that area though, only a small walkway through the area. And LOUD with all the barking dogs. They are taken out a few times a day to play in an enclosed area, one at a time. I'm so worried about finding a good place. Brody is a bit neurotic as it is. I'd hate to do anything to make him worse. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :) |
Suggestion on watching people's furbabies...! So we have been blessed with friends who don't mind staying at our home or taking our Kikyo to theirs who have owned dogs before. That being said, I was wondering why don't us in the Northern VA area watch each others furbabies. Start a private e-mail group that is able to do so while others are out of town. We have NEVER had to board Kikyo and don't want to start. It gives the opportunity for our furbabies to have friends for a little while and build relationships. So what do you all think? Shon |
