What did you pay for your yorkie, is it pet quality, show, or breed quality? Do you show or are they simply your family pet? Just wondering!

I have paid 400 to above 3000 for show propects. It just depends on the blood-line and on the breeder. When I got my pets before I knew anything about showing, I paid 200 to 350 for a pet.

I paid $850 for Bella. I didn't purchase her for show quality or for breeding and I didn't even bother to pay the extra for her papers. I really just bought her because I simply fell in love when I met her (and it was also an added plus that she was already pee pee pad trained at 8 weeks ;). A lot of people thought I was nuts :eek:, but I know my sweet baby was worth every penny. So I am content with my little love bug just being a family pet. :)

I paid 2500 for one of my girls. That is what she meant to me though!

How much does an adult (2 years old and up) Yorkie cost?

You can get some really great prices for adult Yorkies, I've seen show breeders sell adults for $800.00 and less. Occationally, they hold back a puppy hoping it will be a show propect, and one tiny detail makes the dog unsuitable for showing, it could be something as minor as he doesn't like the ring, usually it's something a layman would never be able to see, and it's a beautiful dog.

I was very lucky. I got Piper from a YT member who had to move, so I only had to pay $150. Great price for the love of my life.

We paid $650 for Hercules, and now that I have him, I would have paid much more!!! We got him for a pet. He is worth every penny and then some.;)

I paid $1,200.00 for Odie. I bought him at 7.5 months and picked him up at 8 months. The breeder said she was going to show him but his back coat stayed a very dark black which I guess is a fault in the ring. I've always wanted a Yorkie that stayed black and tan as an adult and boy is he a darkie ... I just love his colouring! He has the sweetest personality and follows me around like a duckling to a mother duck. He is everything I've dreamed my Yorkie would be and more.
I thought I would have gotten a female. We planned it that way and even had her name, Bella. Then we saw Odie's picture and my daughter said "that is our dog!" I've never had a male dog and didn't know what a male would be like. He is amazing and I am soooooo happy I have a little boy. He is the love of our lives and spoiled to no end. We've only had him for about 2 months, he turned 10 months on January 4th, and I can't imagine our lives without him. He fits so well in our family and is so happy. My daughter and I still say to each other that we can't believe we finally have a Yorkie and he is so perfect for us. He is worth every penny we paid for him and the breeder is first class. She answered all our questions and loves her Yorkies so much. We are so grateful to her for letting us adopt Odie ... she is very careful about who she lets her Yorkies go to and you can tell it is her love and passion. Both her and her husband are wonderful people and if we ever decided to get another Yorkie we wouldn't think twice about going there again. Thanks Debbie and Robert!!!! We love our baby boy!!!!

I paid $650 for a champion sired pure breed Yorkie.

I have noticed the prices on them dropping recently.

I paid $600.00 for Baron. He was 6 months old when I got him. He is just a very much loved pet!! :D

Shelby & Seymour would have a been a BARGAIN at Double the Price!!! LOL!!! Of course they are worth MILLIONS!!!!!!!!!!
I paid a fair price for them, but I did end up having LP problems with Shelby. I can't say that it was a heredity issue (as she used to do the "flying squirrel" off the couch when she was little, and just had no fear from anything.... so it could have been caused by her Evil Kineval ways :mad:). I do not show Shelby or Seymour...... but I think that I should have given it a try with Seymour... maybe with my next one. ;)

I really think that if you are looking for a Yorkie, it is not just the price that is (or should be) looked at. You need to look at the breeder.... and there are LOTS of good quality breeders, just do your homework. (This is a lesson that most of us have learned from experience..:( )
There are some TERRIBLE breeders out there that will sell you a "Teacup, TeddyBear faced, mini, or even a DESIGNER" (all words that should give you a RED FLAD.....) for $4000.00. Then you end up with probs like hypoglycemia, LP, livershunt, and etc. with no concern from the breeder.... sometimes they just "disappear".
You also can by a $4000.00 show dog from a wonderful breeder that gives you a wonderful guarantee and also will be willing to help you with questions and concerns the entire time you own the dog.

ON the flip side...... you can buy a $700.00 pup from the flea market, puppymill or a backyard breeder...:eek::eek::eek::eek:....... that is probably not old enough to leave it's Mother, and also has not had any health checks done... and no contract or further help.
Or you could buy one for $700.00 from a reputable breeder, pet quality, who has a good bloodline (free from hereditary problems...... not always does the word "champion" in a bloodline mean this!!), and have a wonderful pet and a new "friend"(breeder) that helps with your concerns and questions.

....... but remember, it also may definitely be worth taking a small gamble and ADOPTING one for $200-$400.00 and give a deserving little guy or a gal a new start and a loving home. :animal-pa

I think a dog shouldn't be 1,000. dollars , many more would find loving homes. If it's a SHOWDOG to be, then thats a different matter. Shelby and Seymour are just beautiful!! Her words were right on..

First of all, I hope I didn't give the impression that dogs should never be over $1000. I always urge people to find the best breeder they can. It doesn't matter if you are not planning to breed or show, finding a healthy dog bred by a reputable breeder is, in my opinion, the only way to go. I also think it makes financial sense to save up for a puppy if the purchase price from a reputable breeder is too high. A reputable breeder will only breed healthy dogs, and dogs that fit standard, so the offspring is likely to be a great example of the breed. Finding a dog from a backyard breeder may sound like a bargain, but later health problems can be a huge financial and emotional drain. A show breeder shows her dog, in order to properly evaluate her breeding stock, and only the best of the best are bred, a consciousness breeder would always do health testing, or through screening of a dog because it is also in her best interest to produce healthy dogs. Show breeders' dog prices do vary and some of this is due to the state where you live. Remember, most show breeder adopt their dogs out to families who neither breed no show. If no one is supporting good breeding, good breeding will end.
