Help! We are preparing to bring home our yorkie pup next week. Please help us with food, training, etc. We have read all we can, but sometimes to much information is no help. We need help from actual yorkie parents Thanks |
congratulations!! You have come to the right place. I would recommend doing a search on the topics you want to learn more about... This place is full of people who have made topics on all the important stuff you will want to know. :) Cheers, Lorene |
Thanks, we will. Any tips from your personal experience? |
I have four... my best advice is to always be patient. They do not learn anything positive from anger or aggression. Outbursts run the risk of breaking their spirit and making them fearful of you. They give unconditional love and should be treated like the precious gifts that they are. |
Hi, congratulations on getting a new pup. I think the best advice I got was to learn to do the "Yorkie Shuffle". That's where you don't lift your feet off the ground for the first year. :D These little guys love to stay by your feet, and otherwise it's so easy to step on them. Be patient with potty training they will make mistakes, and have plenty of Nature's Miracle on hand to clean mistakes, otherwise they will be attracted to the same place to go again. |
My best advice is with potty training. When you bring your new pup home do not let its paws touch your floors until it has pottied where you want it to potty in the future. If you plan on training it to go outside...take it outside first, put it down and wait...this may take awhile but eventually it will potty, then use plenty of positive reinforcement...with praise, treats, hugs and kisses. It will then know what to do to get that very same reaction from you in the future...they are smart and want nothing more then to please you...Believe me, this works...Winston was 100% trained to potty outside the very first day. I got this advice from a local dog trainer...I was thrilled with the results and hopefully so will you. Congratulations on your new puppy...enjoy!!! |
