Can you recommend a breeder? Hello, My name is Lorisha and I'm trying to find a reputable breeder in the VA/Philadelphia/North Carolina area? I've been researching on the internet for awhile but there is just sooooo much out there and I'm so overwhelmed. I'm looking to adopt in spring of next year because my husband will be back then and we'll be able to train and give time and attention. I'm a nurse and we have no children so our furbaby will be spoiled to death. I don't expect adopting to be cheap, but I want to know that I'm not getting ripped off by a puppy mill or broker. We own our home and it has a large fenced backyard, and our pet will be kept in the hourse with us. Another question: I see puppies listed anywhere from $500-$3000 dollars on the internet and newspapers. What is a reasonable price for a dog with limited registration? Thanks for any help you can give I appreciate it. |
I think it's great..you're researching before getting your puppy. I can think of two breeders located in the western part of Virginia. I am sure there are others...these two just come to my mind. Home Welcome to Cloverdale Yorkies ... Yorkies of Distinction. For loving pets or show! I got my Reggie...who is a biewer not a yorkie...from windyhill. She also breeds yorkshire terriers. Very professional breeder. Her breeding program is what I look for in a breeder. All her breeding pairs have been genetically tested, her puppies are tested also, she offers a 1 year congential health guarantee, her dogs are AKC, she eagerly and patiently answers any questions you might have. It's those specific qualities above...that I would look for in any breeder. Forgot to add...I would expect to pay 1200 - 1500 for a pet...from a breeder offering the above. |
The YTCA breeder list is the best place to find a breeder who is health testing and breeding Yorkies who will grow up to look and act like a Yorkie is supposed to. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club It is definitely "buyer beware" when shopping for a puppy on the internet. The internet is full of brokers, puppy mills, backyard breeders and scammers who will sell you a puppy who will grow up to barely resemble what a Yorkie is supposed to look like and have inherited problems like liver shunts, luxating patellas, etc. |
Thanks bchgirl and ladymom. I'm looking into both of your suggestions, I appreciate your help. Lorisha |
