Sweet Winnie We lost our precious Winnie yesterday at only 7 years old. She had been very lethargic, not eating well, and we took her to the vet (a few days ago.) We explained this to the vet in addition that she was having difficulty walking. We were first told that it could have been an issue with her teeth - because she was showing signs of tartar etc. However, the difficulty walking led me to believe that she may have contracted Lyme's disease, as I had experienced a similar issue with my shih-tzu years earlier. They did a test for Lyme's, which came back positive and as it was the weekend, we did not find this out until the following Monday. They didn't even call us - we had to chase them down to find the results and to get the meds for her. They told us that she would start to feel better within a few days, nothing to be concerned about. We started the meds, but she was getting progressively worse, to the point of not being able to walk at all and her breathing was rapid, not panting, at rest, she was breathing fast. I just took it as a response the the Lymes and the meds, but after one day, she deteriorated so quickly, she was like a rag doll, not able to move at all. She died in our home the second day on the meds. I called the vet, and was told that these things sometimes happen, but with no clear answer as to why this happened in an otherwise healthy dog. We are devastated - I am thinking that she had kidney failure from Lyme's, as she was drinking alot - but I do not know. As we had experienced this before with our Shih-tzu, she was fine after she received the meds. I want to know what happened to our sweet baby. We are all heartbroken. |
