Hunter 3 Attachment(s) I adopted Hunter from Petfinder in 2009, and I also adopted his cellmate a few weeks later, that's Jekyll. I was overwhelmed with questions and confusion. Having 2 rescue puppies was insane! Using this site helped me so immensely. People really took the time to make suggestions that were well thought out , and worked. I could not believe the depth of knowledge and the willingness to share. I thank you. Hunter thrived with our family for 12 years. He brought light and humor with his quirky, territorial personality. We took him camping across the USA. He hated it, but not more than he would have hated being away from us. We brought him mostly everywhere with us. He was so clingy, he hated boarding. We did it a couple of times but mostly we did road trips and brought the dogs. Hunter and Jekyll have visited 45 states + Canada! Hunter grew with my kids, and as he became a senior dog, and my kids went to college, I started really hoping he makes it at least til our little son graduates. I just had a hunch he wasn't going to be a record setting Yorkie in age. We lost him last Thursday. I flew my little son home from college. My son was a mess. I was a mess. My Dh and my big son were a bit more together. My little son (age 20) just flew back to school. While he was here, we went to JoAnn's and bought some supplies to make wristbands out of Hunter's leash. (I'd be happy to provide a tutorial upon request) . We found that surprisingly theraputic. I went back to work yesterday and wore my wristband. As it happens, my name also starts with "H", so I wore a my initial necklace, from now on it stands for Hunter. I'm also going to buy a Hunter backpack. Just my own little way of keeping his memory with me when I go on with life. i came here to share the grief with some people who would understand. Even reading the stickies here from Wylies Mom -- that has helped. It was a tough decision to put him down vs try everything to keep his heart beating, but our Huntie absolutely LIVED for being the Alpha around here. With him ill, it was obvious the power balance changed immediately. Although Jekyll was a loyal, watchful lieutanant, Hunter wanted to just live in his crate and eventually started getting very vicious with me, even when I tried to dropper feed him some water. It was time for him to run in peace. Although I have not been an active member of this community since early adoption times, I want you all to know that you were there for me when it mattered. At the beginning, and even now reading Wylie's Mom's stickies. Love, health, and peace to all. Heidi (Hunter's mom working hard to be there for Jekyll). xo |
