In memory of "Speechless" Hello, My girl, Shy, had her first litter of four nearly four weeks ago. All four were wriggling and moving as expected. We all went to the vet for a checkup less than 8 hours later. They all got a clean bill of health. However, Speechless died the following morning. It could have been a cleft pallet, I'm not sure. I fed her, or tried to, by bottle, and basically making her breast feed from Shy. Once she calmed down and seemed fine I let them all sleep. When I got up five hours later she was passed. I tried to keep rubbing and reviving her even though I knew she was gone. Speechless, is the only pup with a name so far. This is because she was the only one that I found a name that fits perfectly. This was Shy and I's first and last litter. Once Speechless was born I became exactly that- speechless. I suppose "Breathless" would've been an appropriate name as well... I didn't ribbon or find a definitive way to mark the pups when they were born. I know the one that passed was the first one, because, I weighed them all as they came out. She was the lightest one by over an ounce. Anyways, she's the only one I have pics of the birth while in the sac and first feeding. Well, I'm not sure what else to write. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=130143 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=130144 |
I'm sorry for your loss! Breeding is not easy, and can be very sad at times! |
I'm sorry for your loss. Rest in peace lil Speechless. |
As breeders, we sometimes are faced with this sad outcome. The only thing "good" that can come from the loss of any of our precious little souls, is the opportunity to learn the "WHY" behind the loss so perhaps we can avoid the circumstance that was responsible for the loss. When I lose a baby that I have no idea what happened or why, I always have a post done.....as a breeder, I believe it is imperative I know for certain it was not something genetic in my pairing of the two breeding dogs that was responsible for the death. When your vet did your well baby check, he should have picked up on a cleft palate....that is primarily what they are looking for, along with any other obvious deformities. I hope you can learn from the autopsy what caused this precious little soul's demise so if it was something that can be avoided in the future, you can do so. |
Speechless seems so appropriate...I understand that, that you named her, that you thought enough of her to write here about here speaks volumes of the person you are and the love that you have for these pups and a reminder of how each one matters and is loved! Bless you and Rest in peace Speechless....I'm glad she had you. |
So sorry for your loss. |
I've followed your posts since the first one when you thought Shy was pregnant. I think a lot of us were speechless when it became very obvious that you weren't just some idiot who thought it would be cool to breed your dog. I am speechless at the character you have shown while being told off, chewed out, and torn apart. You have shown how much you love Shy and her babies with each post and once again I am speechless that a young military man who loves bikes and has tattoos and probably doesn't look like a typical Yorkie person can have so much love for his girl, Shy. That you care enough to start this thread for the little one that didn't make it, speechless... |
Thanks pink66 and everyone else for the words. The girls are doing well. One is on some meds to get better from a minor issue. She'll be fine in a week or two, if all goes well. I still think of Speechless when I think of trying to get 6 or more hours of sleep. They'll be older soon enough and I can catch up then. I don't know if I can give any of them up to be honest. I know Dash's dad/owner wants one and I have visited one of my co-workers' place and chatted with his wife and I've met their son a couple times. They have a chiwawa and are very caring. I probably won't sell them one, but, rather let them have one. The only condition is that they sign a document/statement of responsibility to ensure she's taken care of and returned if they can't care for her. Thank you again. |
