Sweet Abigale has gone to the bridge Abigale my sweet little old rescue that I've had for the last 5 yrs died in my arms on the way to the vet this morning. I was driving as fast as I could but hit every red light on the way there. She still had a faint heartbeat and some twitching when we got there but that was all so my vet said it was time to let her go and he helped her alittle on her final journey. She has been going downhill for the last several months and when he compared her chest xray Monday to the one three months ago he said the thickened area pressing on her bronchi was larger and he didn't know whether it was just a thickened area with some infection that was progressing or cancer but at her age and in her condition the treatment was the same. She also had an enlarged heart. He changed her meds alittle but it didn't help. She wouldn't eat last night and no urination since last night and this morning she was in congestive heart failure. I'm not sure how old she was but she was already an elderly girl when I got her after she was pulled from the shelter. She was probably used for breeding for as long as she could produce puppies and was not in the best of health when I got her. But I know that I gave her the best last 5 years that she had ever known. She picked her time and she went in my arms when she was ready and I'm so thankful for that. It doesn't matter how these precious souls come into your life or whether they're with you for 5 yrs or 18 yrs the hurt is still the same. Bye Bye my sweet little Abigale. You go with Heidi, Kady, Abbey and Sydney - they are waiting for you at the bridge and will take care of you until I see you all again one day. |
I'm so sorry. At least you were able to make her last years happy. |
Oh my God, that's so heartbreaking. I'm glad she could go in the arms of someone she loved so much and I'm glad you could be there with her in her final moments. People like you are what make this planet such an amazing place. Thank you for giving Abigale the happy life she so richly deserved but was denied for so long before you. |
My heart is with you. |
