Sudden Unexplained Death Hi everyone, first post here but was hoping that someone may have had a similar experience, to say the least my girlfriend And I are devastated and at a loss for words. Yesterday morning when we woke up we found our 8 month old male yorkie Buckley dead at the end of our bed, asleep in his usual spot as normal :(. The day before (Friday) he was completely normal, full of energy, and wanting to play. He went on a walk and played fetch, no abnormal behavior. Even up until we went to bed he was completely normal with no behavior to suggest anything was wrong. We have searched the bedroom to see if there was anything he could have gotten into and there's nothing. It looks as if he fell asleep and never woke up. If anybody has any similar stories or explanations it would be incredibly helpful. My girlfriend and I are truly devastated. For only having Buckley a short time he was such an important part of our lives... Thanks everyone. |

I am so sorry for your loss of your sweet Buckley. |
I am so very sorry for your loss, and send condolences to you and your girlfriend. I lost my 8 yr. old Schnauzer in the same way, she was fine, no illness, then died suddenly in the night. I considered a necropsy, but didn't do it, as I felt it wouldn't bring her back, so why bother. However, I have to say it bothered me for many months not knowing why she died. I had to accept that it was God's will, and just cherish the memories of the time we had together. It is amazing how much our little pups become such an important part of our lives in a very short time. My heart aches for you as you grieve the loss of your little one. |
How absolutely devastating! I am so sorry for you and your girlfriend...that had to be quite a shock....I would absolutely have an autopsy done, at a vet school....they have the equipment and the specialists necessary to diagnose what happened to your baby...if for NO other reason, peace of mind. Beyond that, if you have a breeder that is reputable, she will stand by you...you need to contact her immediately, since most health gaurantees are for at least a year, covering life threatening occurances. She may even want the baby to go to a vet school for autopsy, she may even pay for that....if this is something that was inheriently wrong with the baby that caused his death, you are entitled to a refund....hopefully, you have a reputable breeder that is as good as her word....This is so very sad, and my heart goes out to you. |

Thank you everyone for the condolences, it's much appreciated. I think we're going to try and get a necropsy done if still possible... We had dropped him off at the vet yesterday to get cremated and they're closed today unfortunately, so hopefully we can get ahold of them tomorrow morning before the next steps are taken. Also, we're going to contact the breeder to see if she has seen this before and if she has any suggestions. Again, thank you all for the support in this difficult time. |
So sorry for your loss of Buckley Another Angel taken to soon. I agree with everyone else I would want to know why he died. RIP dear Buckley.:rbyorkie: How long did you have Buckley?:animal-pa Anne/Luci:animal-pa |
We had him exactly 3 months. April 21st - July 21st. |
That is a good point, to notify the breeder, and that a necropsy can provide valuable info to a reputable breeder, and possibly reimbursement to you if a congenital defect is found, since he was so young. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. |
This is very important...you should call the vet today and leave a message on the answering maching before you call early am. My contract clearly states if one of my babies dies, I am to be notified immediately and the body is to be returned to me. I take it to A&M for the necropsy....I need to know what happened to my baby...that is important to tracking my breeding pairs/program. and if the buyers are to get their refund, I must know it is not something that THEY did that caused the death of the puppy. |
I'm so sorry for the loss of your little one. You only had him a short time...I agree with other posters to get an autopsy done to find out what happened. I would also contact the breeder, if she is reputable she would want to know what happened. RIP sweet baby |
So sorry for your loss. |
I am so sorry about your little Buckley. I had a friend that lost her little yorkie the same way. She had just lost her husband and was going through so much at the time anyway, she never found out what happened. He was a rescue and she was devastated. He slept on her pillow and she got up to go to work one morning and found him just like he was asleep. So sad. RIP little Buckley. |
So sorry |
