Please help Sunday I lost my beautiful Bella. Little miss attitude would have been one yesterday. We miss her so much. One minute she was playing and the next she was gone. I was outside watering my plants with her beside me trying to bite the water as usual. She got wet so i told my daughter to get a towel and dry her off. About 30-45 minutes later i went inside. Bella was laying on the floor. She still had her head up but other than that she wasn't moving around. She had something sticky around her mouth so at first i thought she got into something. i looked around but no there wasn't anything. i realized later that it must has been phlegm? I called for my husband and we rushed her to the hospital. I kept talking to her and she would open her eyes. At the hospital they said they had to put her on a respirator and then she became unresponsive. She died within an hour of getting there. I asked if maybe she had swallowed some water and they said "highly unlikely". they think maybe a defect like possibly congestive heart failure because it was so quick. i talked to her vet yesterday after she got the report and she said that bella's heart has always sounded good and her bloodwork when she was spayed was perfect. What happened to my baby? what could i have done? i keep going over it and over it. The only other thing that happened recently was that she hurt her leg and since the vet was closed we took her to the same hospital. this was about 3 weeks ago. they gave her a shot of rimadyl and a rx. now i'm reading on here that rimadyl isn't good. but this wasn't liver and she hasn't had any for 2 weeks. i didn't even give her the whole rx. just for about 4 days. but if she did already have an undiagnosed heart problem?? I should have checked to see what they were giving her. Oh i miss my baby so much. Does anyone have any ideas? Any similar experience? I love you, Bella. forever. |
I am so very sorry. RIP sweet girl. |
First let me say that I am so sorry for your loss....Could it have been an allergic reaction to something, maybe from an insect? |
I'm sorry about Bella. I have a Bella too. Like your Bella mine out of the blue had become unresponsive. She is almost seven now and thankfully pulled through, but about five years ago we took her outside to potty (have a big bag yard fenced in) she was only out there maybe five minutes and with my other Yorkies. Bella is a bigger Yorkie 10 lbs and I think this made the difference in her pulling through. Anyway, I don't know why but something in my gut pulled at me and I screamed for her and could see a body just laying listless in the sandbox we had for our two boys who were young then I ran to her and grabbed her and she stood for a minute, pooped and then fell over. I'll make it short. We took her to the emergency ER who took blood and found her liver enzymes elevated. They thought Liver Shunt. She spent the next day at our regular vet for tests. No liver shunt. The vet determined a bug bite and the only thing in our area powerful enough to do that to her was a brown recluse spider. Perhaps, your Bella was bitten by a spider? I know you'll never know for sure and I know nothing will take the pain away of losing her, but perhaps that will give you some closure of at least knowing it was nothing you could have done that caused it. I am so sorry... When your daughter was drying her off and put her down, was she ok then? |
I am so sorry for your loss. RIP Sweet Bella. |

I really do not think there was anything you could have done if she was somewhere in house and you did not see her as sometimes dogs hide when they are sick too :( If it was rimadyl your dog would have had signs 2 weeks prior as they vomit and have diarrhea not an immediate reaction usually with that. Again I am so sorry but this may help you understand better what may have happened to ease the pain in regards to the medication. Without a necropsy it is hard to tell exactly but that is just my gut from what you described below. |
thank you for your kind responses. my daughter told me later that when she took bella inside bella just let her dry her off which is unusual. she usually puts up a little bit of resistance. then she went and lay down in her bed. she thought she was just tired. i guess i have to resign myself to never knowing what happened to her and try to live with that. I love her so much even tho she's only one. last year i lost my little roxie. she was almost 12 years old. a neighbor's dog came into our yard and bit her while she was right by my porch. we put up a fence around our yard for bella to protect her when she played outside so she would be safe. It just doesn't seem fair. I didn't hesitate to take her to the vet or hospital. Why did this happen? I just want my feisty little sweetheart back. |
throat swell the only thing about that is that i think they would have noticed if her throat was swollen when they put the tube down to help her breathe? |

This is just so tragic and so upsetting as you try to do the right things and sometimes things just happen and it is so unfair and leaves us with so many unanswered questions. Just know she is running around at the rainbow bridge with all the rainbow babies Here are some of her new friends :) http://www.onetruemedia.com/otm_site...ork_id=9156617 http://www.onetruemedia.com/otm_site...ork_id=9156617 |
