My Holly died today from lead poisoning. She was 6 months old. She has been in and out of the vet for over a month. At first they thought she had liver shunts, then encephalitis from toxoplamosis or neospora, then she got pneumonia and THEN on a chest x-ray the vet finally saw a metallic object, a lead craft weight. She endured a spinal tap, a brochoscopy and endoscopy. She had had lead poisoning all this time. Today her breathing became so irregular the vet called us in. We had been visiting twice a day. She was having seizures. We just didnt know what to do. Then she had another seizure while we were holding her and she stopped breathing. The vet gave her an injection and then she was gone. Oh how I loved her. Oh how I will miss her. So sad....So sad.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this. Poor little girl - all that she went through. It sounds like you tried so hard to help her - I'm sure she knows how much you love her. RIP Holly!

omg i am so sorry :( It took them a month to do an xray in this baby after all those tests? :( I am so sad for you

I am so very sorry for your loss! I had a breeder friend tell me that lead poisoning happened to one of her puppies with their new family when they discovered a dime in the intestines during a necropsy. Since I heard that, I'm terrified every time someone turns their jeans over and coins drop on the floor and of course my dogs run to investigate.

Oh I am so sorry about the loss of your little Holly. So many thing to worry about with these little ones . . my Lucy will chew/eat anything she can find.

Thanks for sharing this story as I have not heard of this :( just wish this vet had done an xray first to rule out obstruction

I am sorry you are without your baby today. How it must hurt. Holly must have been a very very special baby to have been loved so much by her mommy. Rest in peace, little one.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I just lost my baby last night and I don't know how I'm going to get through this. Stay strong and just remember everything that was good about her. I don't know if it will work but that is what I am trying.

Thank you to everyone. Lilly I am so sorry for your loss. I was always so worried about medication falling on the floor. I never thought about a lead weight. I hope that something will come out of our loss. I hope our vet and the emergency vet will be more aware. I miss her so much. We have had our cat for 18 yrs but in 6 months Holly climbed behind our hearts. She gave so much love. We tried so hard to figure out what was wrong and not until the end did we find out. I hurt because of all she went through. I hope to get another Yorkie someday. I hope she is just as awesome as Holly was.
