How to help a friend? I have lovely neighbours who had to put their 12 year old huskie down last night. I don't know them too well, but we did walk our dogs together sometimes in the summer. Her husband comes in to my work sometimes and he came in this afternoon for something work related and told me the news. He was pretty shook up himself. Is there anything thoughtful that you think I could do for them? |
A nice pet sympathy card would be nice. |

I agree with the card. I think it would be nice and they would know that you are thinking of them:animal-pa |
I agree, when we lost our pets it was always nice to get a card from someone, there really isnt much else you can do. |
A card is a great idea because a lot of people feel weird about showing or talking about their grief for the loss of a pet. A card let's them know that you think it's okay to grieve for a pet, and that you do understand what they're experiencing and that it's okay. |
Its a long line ahead of me, but a card is the best thing to do, without a doubt. |
It is so heartbreaking to lose your faithful pet. I had a work colleague that lost her cat of 17 years. I managed to get a picture of her baby and had it made into a small fleece blanket with a note that reminded her that Precious was always close and ready to keep her warm. Another friend lost her dog of 18 years. For her, the nights seemed to be the worst. So, I named a star for Granny and hoped that she would find a star on those lost nights that would lead her home. For the pets I have lost, I always make a donation to a rescue to help another pet. |
i agree with the others a lovely pet card, there is also some lovely poems in this section too :animal-pa |
Yup card would be nice |
The Evet where my little girl passed sent a card that I got yesterday, and they included a paw print from her that was laminated with her name inscribed. Someone at the vet does this voluntarily. I was really appreciative. I wrote them a thank you note. If your dog is a part of the family, then knowing that someone cares is very helpful. Some people look at dogs as property, but mine are family. I think a card is appropriate. |
I agree with the card. I got several when my 22 year old cat, Missy passed away in 2008. It was a comfort to know that people cared so much to send a card. I had had her all of her life, so it was very difficult for me. |
a card is a very nice thing to do. I still cherish the cards that I received when I lost both of my cats. :) |
Ditto on the card and if you happen to have any pictures of their dog I would give it along with the card. Just showing you care is plenty. |
